21 APRIL: GALKAYO, SOMALIA


A man was shot and killed in his vehicle at the entrance to Galkayo’s Abdullahi Yusuf Airport. He had refused to slow down for a vehicle inspection and had then drawn his AK 47 and started arguing with the airport security guards, who eventually shot him.


27 APRIL: MADRID, SPAIN Two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, were arrested for damaging an Air Europa aircraft parked at Madrid-Barajas Airport. They had smashed their way through a security door, boarded the aircraft and then destroyed cockpit systems. They also damaged the aircraft's undercarriage and infl ated passenger life jackets.


29 APRIL: SYRIA Two ground-to-air missiles were fi red at a Nordwind Airlines fl ight fl ying over Syria, en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to Kazan, with 159 people onboard.


30 APRIL: BATARAZA, PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES


An ammonium nitrate-based home-made bomb exploded near a private airport belonging to the mining company Rio Tuba Nickel Corporation.


1 MAY: KISMAYO, SOMALIA A group planning to attack the international airport was identifi ed by surveillance and promptly intercepted by AMISOM troops. Mortars were fi red and the shells landed outside the airport.


2 MAY: ISTANBUL, TURKEY Reports emerge that a security guard, working for a private company at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, had allegedly stolen two sacks containing between 2.5 million and 3.5 million Syrian pounds.


2 MAY: HOUSTON, TEXAS Carnell Marcus Moore


walked into the airport carrying a suitcase and armed with a military- style semi-automatic rifl e. He fi red shots into the ceiling and, when confronted by an armed security agent, pulled out a second gun


and killed himself. Moore was carrying a suicide note and a Gideon Bible in his suitcase.


5 MAY: MOGADISHU, SOMALIA 15 people were killed when a vehicle full of explosives, driven by a suicide bomber, blew up on the road between Mogadishu’s Adenb Abdulle International Airport and Villa Somalia, the state house in the capital.


13 MAY: REGINA, CANADA A green laser attack against a Kelowna Flightcraft fl ight, en route from Regina to Winnipeg, resulted in both pilots requiring hospital treatment when they reached Winnipeg. The aircraft was climbing through 1200 feet out of Regina when a green laser incapacitated the fi rst offi cer and impacted the second offi cer to a lesser extent.


14 MAY: MIAMI, FLORIDA


A shipment of gold which had just arrived from Guayaquil, Ecuador, with a declared value of $625,000, was stolen in an apparent heist at Miami Airport.


16 MAY: JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA A police shooting occurred in the rental vehicle car park at the airport; one suspect was wounded and another arrested.

4 APRIL: SMÅLAND, SWEDEN Småland Airport was evacuated after airport staff received a letter believed to contain a bomb threat.


5 APRIL: PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD A Caribbean Airlines fl ight preparing to depart Port of Spain for Miami was delayed after a check found that someone had pasted ‘9/11’ on a mirror using liquid soap.


7 APRIL: AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND A suspicious package was found on a Qantas fl ight that had departed Auckland for Sydney; the aircraft returned to Auckland where the bomb squad established that the item was actually part of the interior of the aircraft that is not normally visible.


10 APRIL: WENZHOU, CHINA A fl ight, from Yongqiang Airport in Wenzhou to Beijing, was delayed after a passenger claimed to have carried a bomb onboard.


12 APRIL: MIAMI, FLORIDA An Aerolineas Argentinas fl ight was evacuated at Miami International Airport after a bomb threat was received.


14 APRIL: DINWIDDIE, VIRGINIA A man told an airport worker that there was a bomb inside the terminal, prompting the temporary closure of the terminal at Dinwiddie County Airport.


15 APRIL: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA Abrie Kruger, 33, and his partner Stiaan Avenant, 32, allegedly found a suspicious note in the toilets on board their Emirates fl ight from Dubai to Cape Town. The note had the words, ‘Istanbul’, ’bomb’ and ‘Allah’ written on it and reportedly included a threat stating that if the pilot didn't change course to Istanbul, the aircraft would be blown up.


16 APRIL: JAKARTA, INDONESIA A telephone threat indicating that a bomb was in a fast food restaurant in terminal 2F prompted the evacuation of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

19 APRIL: ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA An anonymous caller said there were explosives at the airport, prompting the evacuation of Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2 terminals.


23 APRIL: MIAMI, FLORIDA James Bahamonde, 38, was arrested after he asked a bar attendant to watch his bag while he went to the toilet, telling her that there may be a bomb in it.


25 APRIL: KIEV, UKRAINE Passengers had to be evacuated from Boryspil Airport after a telephone threat was received.


1 MAY: ZAMBOANGA, PHILIPPINES A PAL Express fl ight bound for Manila diverted to Zamboanga after Kim Castillo, 45, claimed, in-fl ight, to have a bomb in his bag.


14 MAY: QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND A 27-year-old Brazilian man, accompanying his friend to the airport, made inappropriate jokes about a bomb (not being) in his friend's baggage.


15 MAY: DONGGUAN, CHINA Wang, 26, was arrested and accused of making threats against fi ve fl ights operated by Shenzhen Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Juneyao Airlines headed to Shenzhen and Xi'an from other cities. The Shenzhen Airlines fl ight from Xi’an to Shenzhen diverted to Guilin where the aircraft was evacuated; during the process, some of the passengers received minor injuries.


17 MAY: CHONGQING, CHINA All fl ights at Jiangbei International Airport were disrupted following a bomb threat.


21 MAY: MUSCAT, OMAN An Oman Air fl ight to Kuala Lumpur returned to Muscat when a passenger claimed that he had received a call about a bomb on board the aircraft.


28 MAY: KUNMING, CHINA Police in Kunming received a phone call saying there was a time bomb on a China Eastern Airlines bound for Beijing. The caller was later arrested in Kunming.


29 MAY: SOFIA, BULGARIA


An anonymous caller claimed that an explosive device had been placed at Sofi a Airport.


30 MAY: CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA A man allegedly made a bomb threat at on board a Jetstar flight preparing to depart for Sydney.


31 MAY: LIMA, PERU An Air France fl ight to Paris was delayed departing from Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport due to a bomb threat.
