The Electric Event ready to deliver a new experience for the industry

n

The Electric Event, the ECA’s new must-attend electrical industry

event of the year, is to take place for the first time at the ICC Birmingham on 20-22 June.

Combining a gala awards dinner,

high-level conference, exhibition and technical workshops, the Electric Event celebrates electrical excellence and brings together, under one roof, everything the electrical contractor

needs to run and grow their business successfully. Sponsored by leading

manufacturers, wholesalers and industry bodies, the event includes the inauguration of the new ECA president for 2013-14, and the ECA’s annual conference, with a motivational closing session led by explorer and former Castaway star Ben Fogle. A range of leading figures from

industry will deliver presentations on building information modeling (BIM), home automation, intuitive buildings and smart technologies, and a range of technical workshops will take place alongside a trade exhibition featuring more than 40 companies. The event concludes with the first

ever ECA Gala Awards Dinner, hosted by comedian Marcus Brigstocke, on 22 June. These awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of ECA members over the last year. Steve Bratt, ECA Group CEO,

commented: ‘This event is unlike anything the ECA has ever done, and we believe it will set a new standard for conferences and exhibitions in the electrical sector. Anyone wanting to learn about the latest industry developments and how they can grow their business over the next year cannot afford to miss this event.’ You can read more details about

the event on pages 37-43 of this issue. n Delegate rates start from £25 plus VAT for Day 2. For more information, or to register to attend, visit www.electricevent.co.uk

JIB hails adult training success

More than 6,000 trainees have signed up to the Joint Industry Board’s (JIB) adult craft training scheme since it launched in 2009, the JIB has reported. The scheme provides a way

for employers to recruit an unskilled adult and put them on a formal training programme to achieve graded ‘Electrician’ status. It involves the trainee working through a number of stages of training to gain an NVQ3.

As with a JIB apprenticeship, firms do not have to be a member of the JIB to enlist a new recruit on the adult training scheme. Candidates are assessed initially to determine at which level they can enter the scheme, to ensure any prior skills and knowledge are taken into account. ‘We’re delighted that the

is to check the ID of any Green Deal firm. We are telling them not to be tempted to ask an installer to do extra property repair work just because they are already in their home, and always insist on using an approved tradesman for any home repair, maintenance or improvement work.’

adult craft training scheme has been so popular,’ said Steve Brawley, JIB chief executive. ‘It provides a vital route for employers to get formal qualifications for those who are above the traditional apprentice age bracket, helping their whole workforce to become fully skilled and competent.’ n For more about the adult craft training scheme, call the JIB on 03333 218 230.
