Ex-Or delivers 70 per cent warehouse energy savings

Ex-Or’s market-leading range of energy saving lighting solutions has been extended with the launch of Mid-Bay LightSpot PIRs, meaning there is now a full range of programmable PIR presence detection systems suitable for ceiling heights ranging from 8m-16m, typically found in warehouses and industrial units. Like the long-

established Hi-Bay

LightSpot, which is optimised for heights of 12m-16m, the new Mid-Bay LightSpot offers 360 degree movement detection, but optimised for lower heights of 8m-12m. This ensures that effective presence detection with maximum energy savings can be achieved. Both Hi-Bay and Mid-Bay LightSpot allow positioning at the end of the aisle, further extending LightSpot’s energy saving capability. This is made easy with the addition of a special sensor lens mask, offering more efficient detection. Energy cost savings of up to 70 per cent or more can

be made in industrial and commercial warehousing and storage buildings with high ceilings. This is thanks to LightSpot’s ability to ensure the lights are never left burning needlessly in areas that have been vacated or where there is enough natural light. n www.ex-or.com

Legrand sizes up office market standard with new grommets Legrand has moved to create a new industry standard by launching 6in versions of its access and

cleaners’ grommets. The new Electrak products were developed in

response to two key market changes, which mean the current standard 5in solution is no longer the most suitable option. Steve Marr, marketing manager for Legrand’s

power distribution business unit, said: ‘Increased data requirements have led to more data cables being installed, while increased data speed has resulted in thicker cables. ‘Meanwhile, the 17th Edition need for RCD protection

of sockets used by ordinary persons has meant that space in cleaners’ grommets is also at a premium.’ Legrand’s new Electrak solutions tackle these

problems by delivering the additional space required, but without the need to step up to 8in products. Selected products are available pre-wired to Electrak

tap-offs, while the entire grommet range features a large number of additional installer and user benefits, including spring loaded screws for rapid installation and a removable inlay for optional carpet fitting, while the cable flaps in the cleaners’ grommet allow for the permanent connection of services when the lid is closed. nwww.legrand.co.uk

Danlers launches new external Batten Mount PIR occupancy switch Danlers Limited has launched a new IP66-rated, cost- effective, Batten Mount Passive infra-red occupancy switch that can deliver significant energy savings. This easy to fit, robust control can be mounted onto the end of lighting battens via the 20mm knock out and benefits from an integrated unit, ensuring no separate power supply is required. The switch also includes 1m of wire tails to connect to the lighting ballast.

The Batten

Mount PIR incorporates a passive infra-red switch to detect movement of a warm body within the detection zone, and includes a

photocell to monitor the ambient light level that can be adjusted via the internal lux adjuster. If no more movement is detected within a certain time, the PIR will switch off the load, so ensuring no unnecessary waste of energy. The time can be set via the internal time lag adjuster.

It is UK-manufactured and has a five-year warranty,

and is ideal for use not only in factories, warehouses and hospitals but also in outdoor environments such as car parks and wet/wash-down areas, thanks to its tough IP66-rated enclosure. nwww.danlers.co.uk

WAGO making hollow-wall boxes pluggable Although lighting fixtures, distribution boxes and other components are widely available with pluggable interfaces, switches and outlet sockets have, up until now, been connected conventionally. With WAGO’s new family of WINSTA plug adapters, however, switches and sockets can now be fully integrated into pluggable electrical installations. The WINSTA RD 3-pole adapters for hollow-wall

boxes are available in two versions: the 774-213/9900- 0000 for socket outlets with Coding A (black) and the 774-1373/9900-0000 for switches with Coding S (brown). With a maximum wire cross section of 2.5mm2 (AWG 14), the rated voltage for the components is 250 V, with a nominal current of 20 A. The WINSTA RD plug adapters permit complete

pre-assembly of switches and power outlets. The system installer snaps the adapter from the outside into the hollow-wall box and connects the pre-wired switches or socket outlets before mounting them into the box. The pre-assembled cables can then simply be connected on site. n www.wago.com

C-TEC protected with Prysmian FP Leading life-safety equipment manufacturer C-TEC has chosen Prysmian’s FP cables for its new headquarters in Wigan. C-TEC specialise in life-safety systems such as fire

alarms, voice alarms and disability products, all of which feature prominently in its new 75,000 sq ft facility. For these vital systems, FP PLUS and FP200 Gold were specified and installed for maximum circuit integrity. The voice alarm system was connected to the fire

alarm system so it can broadcast alert messages in the event of an emergency. Similarly, a SigTEL Disabled Refuge System was installed enabling two-way communication between rescue teams and disabled people waiting in the refuge area. FP200 Gold was an ideal specification as a ‘standard’

fire-resistant cable that has excellent data and signal transmission characteristics. FP PLUS is an ‘enhanced’ hard-skinned cable which can be used in Category 1, 2 and 3 circuits as defined by BS 8519, the code of practice for the selection and Installation of fire-resistant power and control cable systems for life safety and fire-fighting applications. n www.c-tec.co.uk
