Scolmore takes charge with USB module As ownership of portable electronic devices increases, so too does the number of leads and adaptors required to keep these devices charged. Scolmore Group has come up with a simple and
neat solution with its new USB Charging Module, which negates the need for a myriad of charging leads and means just one USB cable is required to charge all devices.
Designed for easy installation into a 25mm back
MK Electric greets UK’s mobility boom with new USB charging module MK Electric is expanding the largest range of wiring devices in the UK with the launch of a new USB charging module. The product – which is part of MK’s range of TV, data,
power and audio euro modules – is capable of charging touchscreen tablets, mobile phones, satellite navigation devices, cameras, e-readers and games controllers, as well as smartphones and PDAs. The USB charging module features two 5V outlets enabling two devices to be charged simultaneously without a drop in power. For rapid charging of touchscreen tablets, users can operate one outlet port at 2Amps. Alternatively users can charge two devices, using both outlet ports up to a combined charge of 2Amps.
Designed with versatility in mind, the module can be used in conjunction with any MK 50mm x 50mm euro module front-plate, and has zero standby power consumption, as it automatically disconnects when the plug is removed, saving power.

Fluke energy seminars across the UK Fluke, a global leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology, is offering an Energy Seminar at a range of locations across the UK between May and November. The seminar
offers guidance to electricians, electrical engineers and
industrial maintenance technicians by focusing on quantifying energy consumption and identifying energy waste in industrial and commercial enterprises. Measurement data supports the decisions and actions that can be taken to reduce energy consumption and cost. All seminar dates and locations can be found at
www.flukeacademy.shuttlepod.org/UK-Seminars, with instructions on how to register. The seminars will run from 8.30am to 4pm at a cost of
£25 (refreshments and lunch included). Participants will be shown how, with the right
tools, measurement data can support decisions and actions such as upgrading equipment, supply/demand right-sizing and optimisation, introducing controls and automation, applications for utility incentives, and repairs. n

Tests show that metal content can go undetected Cable tie manufacturer finds products on the market that fail to meet industry levels for metal content Cable fixings manufacturer HellermannTyton is
warning that some plastic cable ties sold as having metal detectable content for use in the food manufacturing plant may contain such low percentages of metal that they will not be picked up by magnetic detection equipment.

HellermannTyton introduces x-ray detectable cable binding New from HellermannTyton is a Metal Content Spiral Binding (MCSB) system with a metal content capable of being identified by x-ray as well as magnetic detection equipment on food processing lines. Developed to the specification standards of the US
Food Drug Administration (FDA), the MCSB is easily applied to pre-terminated cables, encapsulating them in a protective jacket made from fully x-ray and magnetic detectable material. The new MCSB is the result of a solution developed
by HellermannTyton in response to a situation experienced by a major confectionery manufacturer using additional x-ray detection techniques on its production lines. HellermannTyton carried out a series of trials to
establish the minimum percentage of metal required for x-ray detection to arrive at its solution, and, as well as carrying out its own testing, the company had the MCSB independently tested to confirm that its metal content fully meets the levels needed for x-ray detection techniques.

contamination is a major issue that can cause problems through the supply chain from manufacturer down to the final consumer. If undetected before the products reach the consumer,
plastic fragments could have the potential to present a choking or laceration hazard. When HellermannTyton introduced a new material in 2012, the company took the decision to test its own metal content products for detectability and benchmark them against others on the market. Richard Rands, Product Manager for Fastenings and Fixings with HellermannTyton says: ‘Between 2010 and 2012, there have been eight food recalls in the UK as a result of pieces of plastic being found in the end product The impact of contamination and recalls can be astronomical.’

box and with a charging capacity of 1000mA, the USB Charging Module is a standard clip-in 25mm x 50mm Euro module design. It is available in either a white or black finish and can be fitted into all Scolmore’s media plates to complement any installation. Scolmore has also added a new Brush Module to
its growing New Media collection. Providing a neat solution to untidy, trailing cables, the Brush Module is again a clip-in Euro Module design allowing for installation alongside other New Media modules within the same accessory plate.
