June 2013 ECA Today 3
From the editor... W
elcome to the June issue of ECA Today. As you can see from the cover of this magazine, this month marks the fi rst ever staging of The Electric Event, the ECA’s groundbreaking new show that combines the association’s high-level annual conference with a
fi rst-class Meet the Suppliers exhibition and an innovative Technology Live series of workshops. It also sees the presentation of the inaugural ECA Annual Awards at a glittering Gala Dinner on the last night of the event. It’s an event that the industry has been waiting for. Running from 20-22 June
at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Birmingham, The Electric Event promises to be an unmissable experience for anyone looking to develop their business. The annual conference strand of The Electric Event is once again designed to deliver a series of thought-provoking and insightful keynote presentations by a selection of high-calibre speakers from the electrical industry and beyond. These should provide fresh perspectives to help your business identify opportunities and address the challenges facing this sector. The Electric Event presents a great opportunity to fi nd out more about the
latest technology, techniques and services, and it off ers the chance to meet, and discuss issues with, key members of the electrical industry and supply chain. The fl exible format enables visitors to get exactly what they need from the event, so taking time out to attend will certainly be a smart move for any forward-thinking contractor. You can read more about it in Countdown to The Electric Event on pages 37-43 of this issue.
Inside story Of course, supporting businesses to run more eff ectively and grow is an integral
part of what the ECA is all about. In this issue, we take a look at ECA members from a wide range of disciplines that are developing their businesses and moving ahead, with the support and expertise of the association a crucial asset. You can read about them in Leading the way on pages 29-35. Elsewhere, we also explore some of the new areas of opportunity for the
future, technology issues and developments in the market that are signifi cant for members’ businesses – including a focus on LED lighting (pages 46-49), updates on the Renewable Heat Incentive (pages 24-26) and building information modelling (pages 58-62), plus an overview of how the solar PV market has developed since the FITs-fuelled boom came to an end (pages 54-56). Next issue, we’ll be carrying a detailed report on The Electric Event, with articles
covering some of the key topics to come out of the three-day show. We’re looking forward to it – and we hope to see you there.
