Finding Fellowship A

iming to offer a place for fellow- ship, learning, enrichment, service

and practice, the Buddhist Faith Fellow- ship hosts Sunday morning gatherings sharing practical spiritual “tools” to help awaken to one’s inner potential of compassion and wisdom. These may include deep hearing, sitting and voice meditation, aspirational prayer and the voicing of the Nembutsu-Namu-Amida- Butsu. Gatherings include discussion with Rev. Daishin Senpai and other teachers. Sessions take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mansfield Free- man Center of East Asian Studies (343 Washington Terrace, Wesleyan Univer- sity, Middletown, CT). June’s schedule includes the following talks. Mindful Shopping and Consuming (June 9) discusses how to apply Buddhism into the shopping experience, encouraging socially conscious and mindful pur- chasing decisions. The Path of Grati- tude (June 16) mentions the essence of Shin’s central practice, the Nembutsu, not to attain enlightenment, but to express the awareness of gratitude. Re- newal of the Heart - a Summer Solstice Practice (June 23) celebrates life with light, balance and renewal by chant- ing the seven chakras and reflecting on Buddhist words with time-lapse pho- tography of a benedictine monk, David Steindl-Rast. The Meaning of Life (June 30) dharma talk is based on a quote from Alfred Bloom’s book, Strategies for Modern Living, “For Shinran and his followers, the meaning of life is not in struggling against an uncertain destiny, but in living with gratitude for the com- passion that sustains our being.”
