Addiction Counselor Helps Find Peace T
hough the word “addiction” may
initially conjure up images of alcohol and drugs, these are not the only ways in which compulsive behaviors appear that can ultimately damage relationships, cause personal suffering, and incur debilitat- ing consequences. Many fac- tors can contribute to addic- tive behaviors and Licensed Professional Counselor Seth A. Weinstein specializes in
healing from addictions with a focus on treating the whole person, including symptoms and underlying issues. Among the concerns Weinstein treats are codependence, sex and love addictions, including those who excessively watch internet porn, partners of sex addicts, or anyone stuck in compulsive addictive or avoidant relational patterns. Among indications of love addiction are: obsessive thoughts, preoc- cupations and fantasies about a partner; feeling worthless, inferior or inadequate; feeling too vulnerable and sensitive without healthy boundaries; an inability to be authentic; ex- periencing too much neediness or dependency; feeling rigid and in control or out of control. Sex addicts may experience: preoccupation and obsession; attempts to control; continued behaviors despite negative consequences like shame and unmanageability; significant negative impacts on quality of life. Weinstein also treats those who have experienced trauma, from single incidents like rape or a car accident, to war exposure and childhood relational incidents, including abandonment, enmeshment, neglect and abuse. Individual sessions are available, as are intensive couples therapy sessions involving working through issues and facilitating greater intimacy and authenticity.
Seth Weinstein is reachable at 134 Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook, CT. For information, or to schedule an appoint- ment, call 860.395.4700, or visit

In aquatics, participants utilize various flotation devices and exercising techniques to achieve the desired result. It is not necessary to know how to swim. Therapy benefits include: enhanced cardiovascular health; an hour of exercise in water is the equivalent of to two and a half hours of the same exercise on land; the effects of gravity are essentially eliminated in the water; an alterna- tive for those who are unable to tolerate traditional land- based exercises. The ultimate goal is to reduce pain, educate about sustaining health and equipping participants with a home program that can continue independently.
