Background Most AFS standard

the friability test and a modified cone jolt test can discriminate between the two sands. In the study, green sand


was aerated in a new, small, portable aeration device that quickly and cost effectively produced AFS sand speci- mens, allowing engineers to compare properties between green sand molds filled via gravity and aeration (Fig. 3).


Conclusions •


The friability test is able to identify differences between gravity filling and aeration sand filling at any target compactibility. •
