What’s Your Favorite Fishing Story?

Chad Harlow: I was fi shing with my grandfather and my brother when I was about 4 or 5. I caught a fi sh and it just about pulled me into the water. My brother wanted to help me but my grandfather held him back so I could do it all on my own. I stopped trying to reel it and just ran up the bank, dragging the fi sh behind me. I miss those days of hunting down grasshoppers to use as bait. Nathan-Amanda Wise: I just took my 3 girls fi shing and would catch one and let them reel them in. My 2-year-old said no, she wasn’t going to reel it in. When I asked why, she said she wanted a baby fi sh. That one is too big! Dain Allen Schaefer: My favorite memory was when I was about 7 years old. My family and grandfather had gone fi shing at a stock tank. I cast my line and caught a bass right away and my grandfather was not catching anything. So when I went to have my daddy take my fi sh off my line my grandfather moved into my spot. I just moved to another spot and caught another and he didn’t get a bite. This went on all day. Now telling this story brings a smile to my face remembering my grandfather and the fun times. Rose Jernigan, TSCRA accounting staff: My husband and I were fi shing in a little

boat with a trolling motor on the river close to the bank. My youngest son, who was about 4, was in the boat with us. We were under a long branch with shade, and I looked up and saw wrapped on that branch one of the biggest snakes I had ever seen. I started yelling at my hus- band to move the boat because of the snake. He turned around and pushed the oar on the bank to move the boat and brushed against a lot of bushes and fi lled the boat with spiders. I stood up and started screaming, “Spiders! Spiders!!” and grabbed my son. My husband said ever so quietly if I didn’t sit down he was going to knock me in the river before we all turned over and drowned. We didn’t catch any fi sh that day.
