Timber and building materials supplier, Jewson, is equipping its expanding range of Tool Hire branches with the Clare B255 testers from the Seaward Group

he addition of the new electrical safety testing technology at the Jewson hire branches (over 30 nation wide), is part of the com-

pany’s ongoing commitment to health and safety.

Tool hire branches made safer T

Right: the Clare B255 testers from the Seaward Group have provided electrical safety for Jewson Tool Hire

The Clare B255 tester has become the product of choice within the tool hire, service and repair industries due to its electrical safety testing capabil- ity. The compact bench top tester enables electrical safety tests to be car- ried out quickly and effectively, ensur- ing that power tools and other electrical rental equipment functions correctly with maximum safety. The B255 enables the full suite of electrical safety tests to be carried out and includes earth/ground bond and hipot/flash testing alongside load, run and leakage testing.

In the Jewson branches the tester is used as part of an overall process which ensures that all power hand- held tools and construction equip- ment are routinely serviced, tested and recorded before being made available for hire.

The testing is linked to computerised

records and service schedules to ensure that the correct functionality and safe operation of all hire and rental equip- ment is maintained at all times. Lee Percival, Jewson Tool Hire regional director for the North and Scotland, commented, “The safety of our staff and customers is our number one priority. Our training programmes are designed to ensure that all Jewson Tool Hire staff are up to speed with best practice and industry requirements. “We work in partnership with

Seaward to ensure all our Tool Hire branches meet the HAE standards for electrical safety testing.”

Electrical safety testing with the Clare B255 ensures compliance with European and International standards for Class I and Class II electrical prod- ucts, such as EN 60335, EN 61029, EN 60065, EN 50144 and EN 60745.

Enter 201 Sensor measuring range extended New PAM400 phase angle meters

A new miniature linear position sensor with a 300mm measuring range has been added to Turck Banner’s compact LI-Q17 series position sensors. The LI-Q17 in a fully encapsulated plastic hous- ing is now available in five sizes with measuring ranges of 50, 100, 150, 200 and 300mm for temper- ature ranges from -40°C to 70°C. The new sensor series have extremely small blind zones of 10mm at the connection end and 22mm at the head end. The

connection is implemented with a pigtail with 30cm cable and M12 connector or with two metres of open connection cable. Its intelligent mounting concept means the user can install and start the LI-Q17 with the supplied standard acces- sories quickly and simply - in all mounting situations. Stable metal clips that are simply snap fitted in the sensor housing enable either vertical or horizontal mounting. The elec- tronic module in the positioning element is rotatable so that it can be positioned exactly as required by the mounting position. Special measuring ranges can be pro- grammed exactly at the device for the particular requirement. Turck Banner www.turckbanner.com T: 01268 578 888

Megger has introduced phase angle meters in its new PAM400 range to offer a solution for a wide range of applica- tions, including checking polyphase metering installations, testing protective relays, making comparative tests in elec- trical substations, and verifying phase angle deviation on power transformers. The PAM400 range includes two mod- els. The PAM410 provides facilities for measuring the phase angle between two voltages, two currents or between one cur- rent and one voltage. Voltages up to 500V and currents up to 25A can be connected directly to the instrument, and the current range can be readily extended by using external current transformers. The instru- ment displays phase angle directly, with a resolution of 0.1º.

The PAM420 adds facilities for two chan- nel voltage, current and frequency measure- ment. It also has a timing function that can be triggered by voltage signals or volt-free contacts, and can measure times up to

999.999s with a resolution of 1ms. The PAM420 has a built-in rechargeable battery. The units come complete with a carrying case, test lead set and, in the case of the PAM420, a mains operated battery charger. The units have a CAT III 500V/CAT IV 300V safety rating, except for the timer inputs on the PAM420, which are rated CAT II 250V. Both models can be calibrated locally.
