Micro R/C Baby Biwinger by Howard Moore

Howard Moore checks in this month with a picture of his Baby Biwinger R/C conversion. Howard writes: “I wanted to share a photo of the Baby Biwinger I built from the centerfold plans in the July 2012 issue of FLYING MODELS. I took up Daniel Walton’s suggestion and built one for micro R/C using the brick and motor from an E-flite 4-Site UM. The fuselage was widened to 1

inch to get the motor forward enough to assist in the balance of the plane. The finish is hand brushed Tamiya acrylic paint over a coat of Sig sanding sealer and weighs 35 grams less battery.” Howard has since reported that the little model flies great. This month Daniel Walton explains how to convert this 1950’s freeflight to micro R/C starting on page 32.

Great Planes Dazzler by Great Plains Technology

This multi-colored Dazzler was built from the Great Planes kit by three high school students at Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton, OK. The plane is their entry as “Team Frigate” in this year’s “Speedfest III”event hosted by Oklahoma State University as a state- wide “one design” competition. The team is comprised of students Cameron Green, Silas Percival, and Robert Bedford, and the Dazzler is the first model airplane any of the three had built. The plane is covered in yellow UltraCote with MonoKote trim strip striping. Custom decals were done by Callie Graphics. Power for the plane is an OS .46 LA with a Tactic 4-channel radio providing the control. The team’s instructor is Mike Farrell from GPTC and the team’s mentor for the project is former FLYINGMODELS columnist, Dr. Larry Kruse.
