Other conference highlights In total, the AAHA Phoenix 2013 Yearly Conference had 3,691 attendees, including 1,233 veterinarians, 297 practice managers, 272 technicians, 219 veterinary assistants and support staff, 104 veterinary and veterinary technician students, 45 other professionals, 525 guests, and 996 exhibitor personnel.


Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau made an appearance at the opening session to honor the millionth attendee to pass through the Phoenix


Convention Center: Monique Weldon, DVM, of accredited Loving Family Animal Hospital in Aurora, Colo., received a generous prize package from the convention bureau.


AAHA partnered with local charity ROAR (Rescue Operation for Animals of the Reservation) to raise money and awareness for animals and the people who care for them on American Indian reservations. AAHA donated $1,000 and raised $1,020 during karaoke at Late Night with AAHA. Pet blogging group BlogPaws also contributed $2,500, and the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau donated $1,000 to the charity. (see photo below).


A special conference app was developed for the Yearly Conference. The app allowed users to see a map of the exhibit


hall and track what sessions they wanted to go to. In all, the app was downloaded 2,251 times.


AAHA hosted a media conference that featured three Phoenix-area dogs whose lives were saved by accredited hospitals. The event also featured two dogs that were rescued by ROAR. The accredited hospitals received attention from local media outlets as well as pet bloggers.


AAHA’s live streaming surgeries allowed attendees to watch surgeries as they were performed. The surgeries, all performed on animals in need of the procedure, were featured on a giant 2-story- tall by 12-story-wide digital screen so that viewers could get a real, close-up look at what was happening (see photo). 
