the Black Sea cruise was seamless and problem-free... we wanted to express our sincerest appreciation for the hard work and dedication that the Tauck team put into making our tour one of the most exciting and memorable adventures we’ve had – and a honeymoon trip we will definitely never forget.

LAND TRIPS + RIVER CRUISING...

For 88+ years, the Tauck family has had a passion for sailing – small ships and yachts on seas the world over, riverboats along great rivers and waterways, and at home, aboard many different styles of crafts on the beautiful rivers and lakes of Connecticut and New York. Once we started taking guests on European land trips in 1991, it was inevitable that we would blend our land experience with our strong passion for cruising... Our first European river cruise was in 1992, almost ten years before riverboats became one of the “hottest” ways to travel. That first cruise meandered along the Danube, the Main and the Rhine rivers, all the way from Vienna to Köln. We didn’t want any “ordinary” river cruise experience; we wanted guests to travel the rivers in the same beyond-the-ordinary Tauck style they experienced on our land trips along Europe’s back roads. And as your “hotel” is traveling right along with you, we needed riverboats that were custom-designed and crafted to match our experience ashore...

INNOVATION & CREATIVITY

We extensively searched to find the right company to partner with, a company that would share our values and our commitment to “do the right thing” by our guests. We found that partner in another family-owned company – Scylla, owned by the Reitsma family. Based in Basel, Switzerland, Scylla is involved in the design, construction, outfitting and operations of our riverboat fleet. Together, we have custom-crafted all of our riverboats, working with an amazing group of international engineers, designers, electricians, mechanics and craftsmen to bring these wonderful vessels to life... to transport guests on unique, innovative, immersive, and authentic travel experiences in towns, villages and cities found along the great rivers and waterways of Europe. Take a look at the map on the previous pages for the scope of our river cruises in 2014 – from the North Sea to the Black Sea, France to Hungary, and right through the heart of old-world Europe – our fleet of luxury riverboats takes you to places where Tauck’s uncommon access ashore connects you with people, places and cultural traditions. And with Tauck River Cruising in high demand, we’re introducing four new river cruises and two new riverboats in 2014. Family-owned, our 88+ years of experience makes river cruising unlike any other!
