Abuja Nigeria’s purpose-built city of Abuja replaced Lagos as the country’s capital more than two decades ago and has prospered as home to government institutions and multinational companies. Located in the geographic centre of the country, it has an economy founded on oil and petroleum products, financial services, leather goods, telecoms and road vehicles. British Airways serves Abuja daily from London Heathrow, with Arik Air operating


services via Lagos. Lufthansa and Air France operate daily departures out of Frankfurt and Paris CDG respectively.


Senegal Dakar


With a port on Senegal’s Atlantic coast, the country’s capital is a hub for shipping in the region, with easy access to transatlantic and European markets. Home to many banks and financial institutions, Dakar houses numerous multinationals and research institutes. There are no direct flights from the UK to


Dakar. Air France operates daily to Dakar out of Paris CDG and Arik Air has connections from Lagos. Brussels Airlines has four departures weekly from Brussels, and Emirates offers the same frequency from its Dubai hub.


Sudan Khartoum South Sudan seceded from the north in 2011, with Juba as its capital. Back in what is officially know as the Republic of Sudan, most business is conducted in the capital city of Khartoum, which controls the country’s oil wealth. Located where the White and Blue Niles meet – known as ‘al-Mogran’ – the city also counts printing, glass manufacture,
