reservations and online booking service this spring, with connectivity to many established transport and GDS systems allowing faster, easier access to its services. Chauffeur-drive is among the range of services provided by HRG Ground Transportation, launched last year by the
TMC in partnership with GroundScope, a UK-based leader in providing the business sector with a global managed ground transportation system. Described as a one-stop-shop, the service includes bookings online via HRG Online and GDS systems like Galileo or by phone. Suppliers are carefully vetted to ensure they deliver an agreed level of service, and HRG Ground Transportation takes care of invoicing, the provision of detailed management information and corporate responsibility issues. In practice, clients requesting a limo pick
up and collection point, for example, are quoted a price, the trip is confirmed by email, and the traveller gets a text message 30 minutes before collection with the driver’s contact details. Payment is due two days after the trip and an online receipt is subsequently issued. Proof that the service is welcomed for bringing together all the elements of ground transport under one roof came shortly after the launch, with clients in sectors including pharmaceuticals, computers, and the motor industry signing on the dotted line. The argument is well documented: should a company buy a vehicle outright, get it on a hire-purchase lease, lease it per se, or get a business loan to fund it? There are pros and cons in every case.
Then there are the questions of depreciation, maintenance, tax liability and corporate responsibility. The latter is a minefield. Under new duty of care laws, for example, many companies forbid the use of a fleet vehicle for airport transfers if the owner is due to arrive back from a business trip late at night after a long flight. It's a sensible step, of course, but just another factor to be considered when stressed travel buyers sit down to mull over the minutiae of their budgets.
