Executive Hire Review Volvo Trio For

Kamm Civil Engineering Ltd Kamm Civil Engineering Ltd of Verwood, Dorset has opted for three Volvo ECR48C compact excavators to increment its mobile plant fleet taking delivery from Volvo’s utility equipment dealer Plant & Engineering Services Ltd. Opting for the 4.8 tonne compact excavator from Volvo came about from

several deciding factors according to Co-Director Keith McWilliams. “We had been experiencing some reliability issues with an alternative make in our fleet and decided it was time to change,” he said. And having appraised the market and the deal on offer from Volvo Construction Equipment’s utility equipment dealer for the area, Plant & Engineering Services Ltd, Mr Williams and his partner Adam McCormack decided to opt for the Volvo offering. “The package was pitched just right and we felt confident dealing with Plant & Engineering with their reputation for reliability and service support,” continued Mr McWilliams. The Volvo ECR48C is powered by a Volvo 2.2 litre low emission engine

producing 35 hp coupled to a closed centre, load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times, smooth control and independence of each machine movement. Two speed travel on the machine is fully automatic whilst the operator’s environment boasts one of the most spacious for the machine’s size on the market. Air conditioning with well positioned vents for effective heating, cooling and de-misting is a standard feature.

MAKITA Class M Dust Extractors Now SOLUS Brand For HIRE

STATION National tool rental specialist, Hire Station, has placed an order for more than 200 Makita 447M wet and dry class M dust extraction units for its rental operations across the UK. After careful analysis of the dust extraction business, including the health and safety legal requirements for containment of harmful dust, a decision has been taken to re-equip the whole fleet, as well as Hire Station’s own workshops, with Makita class M dust extraction units. Now both Hire Station service technicians and their customers are better protected to meet the highest safety standards for all site operations. Carl Huntington, Operations Director of Hire Station, says: “Firstly when any

type of tool comes back from rental – this could be a sander, a circular saw, or a domestic vacuum - our technicians have to clean it before performing a full and rigorous service and test. We need to be sure that our staff are protected from whatever dust may be on those machines so we have equipped our own workshops to an appropriate standard with the Makita M class dust extraction machines.” “When a dust extractor comes back into our Centres, our technicians have to

check it over and test it ready for the next rental. They have no way of knowing what material may have been extracted through the machine. If the unit has been used in a class M application it could be that the machine is still carrying this material. It is possible that the hirer did not know the make-up of the site material when he hired an extractor unit so it is better for our rental customers as well as our staff to have the appropriate specification dust extraction unit for most applications. That way everyone is better protected against the health risks of dust, whatever the content. We will also be advising our rental customers of the requirement for them to dispose of the contents of any extractor unit hired prior to sending the machine back to us. They should have a formal process for the disposal of waste on their sites where the risks are generated and they are advised to follow current legislation.” Each of the Hire Station workshops will be equipped with a 240 volt version of

the Makita 447M dust extraction unit whilst the rental fleet machines will be 110v with 3,000 watt motors. The Makita 447M has a 45 litre tank with 24 litre dry capacity container and 20 litre wet capacity. This powerful class M dust extractor moves a maximum air volume of 3.1m?/min operation and a maximum suction rating of 23.0kPa. The 447M uses a heavy duty PET easy clean filter, has great manoeuvrability with castor front wheels and large diameter rear wheels to go over cables and edges and is delivered with a useful 3.5m length of 27mm flexible, lightweight hose.
