Let’s
Back in March 2011 in our Talk Shop article we featured Burgess Tool Supplies –a shop in Burgess Hill specializing in hand and Power Tools for DIY and Trade. At that time Matt Shires had been running his business for almost three years This month has seen some changes for Matt who has moved his business to share premises with Keymer Double Glazing, also of Burgess Hill. Anne Hall spoke to him about the challenges he has faced over the past two years.
Has your new business changed its name? Yes, it is now called Keymer Tools.
Why did you make the decision to move? The lease was due for renewal on my old premises. There were problems with its location with limited parking. Keymer Double Glazing is situated on an industrial estate with ample parking. The location is more suitable for trade customers. It made good business sense to move to this location.
How does your business, selling tools, complement the Double Glazing? The two businesses fit together well and I have a loyal base of customers who are happy to come to these premises.
What challenges have you faced over the last two years? The recession has made customers cautious and they are very careful where they spend their money. It is important to give good value and service to compete with the challenges of the internet.
What is selling well at the moment? Multi tools are very popular.
How do you see the future of the Tool Trade? It is very tough at the moment, but I have every confidence that my business will do well here.
Thank you Matt – ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine wish you every success with your new venture
