W Remembering one of our leaders

e feature in this issue of Northeast Connection a talented young lady named Ashtin Johnson. You can read more about Ashtin on page 8.

As we were introduced to Ashtin and her unique musical ability, we also learned more about her family and, in doing so, discovered that she is a descendent of an individual who figured prominently in the formation of our cooperative. Ashtin is the great-granddaughter of W. M. Melugin, a longtime former cooperative board member. Mr. Melugin joined the cooperative board in 1949 and spent 27 years as the trustee representing District 6. Family members recall Mr. Melugin visiting our nation’s capitol several times on behalf of the cooperative during his tenure as a trustee. He was truly an advocate for the noble cause of bringing electricity to rural northeast Oklahoma. Now for a little family history... Ashtin represents the fifth generation of her family to reside in Mayes County and the fourth generation to attend Pryor High School. She is the daughter of Curtis and Leigh Johnson, and granddaughter of Duane & Donna Melugin and Elmer & Betty Johnson. John Campbell, one of Ashtin’s great-great grandfathers, was born in Mayes County in 1877. John Banister Melugin, another of Ashtin’s great-great grandfathers, arrived in the area in 1889. We appreciate the opportunity to pay tribute to Mr. Melugin and recognize the many years of dedicated service he provided our cooperative and its members.

If you experience an outage, please check your switch or circuit breaker in the house and on the meter pole to be sure the trouble is not on your side of the service. If you contact us to report service issues or discuss your account, please use the name as it appears on your bill, and have both your pole number and account

number ready.
