Jungheinrich has announced that it has commenced production of a new range of 6-9 tonne capacity IC-engine counterbalanced trucks. The diesel and LPG-powered forklifts – designated the DFG/TFG Range 6 – will be built at the group’s factory at Moosburg, Germany. Pallet racking and mezzanine floor manufacturer, RediRack, has announced the appointment of Tim Judge as the company’s new national sales manager. TGW Logistics has recruited five new engineering apprentices. Daniel Marvell, 16, William Taylor, 17, Lewis Thurston,18, Owen Williams,18, and Cameron Pinkerton, 20, of Leicestershire, have begun training as PLC software engineers and applications engineers at Market Harborough-based TGW. The training programme will involve practical electrical and engineering skills as well as software design. This will enable the apprentices to assist in the design of client solutions and the creation of control systems for automated materials handling systems. www.tgw-group.com

S4 Awards recognise women excelling in logistics sector


Entries are being invited for the UK’s leading awards programme for women working in transport and logistics. This year marks the sixth year of the everywoman in Transport and Logistics awards which seek to champion the women leading the way, with cat- egories encompassing those who are drivers, managers, or those identified as the stars of the future in this fast-paced and varied sector.


For 2013, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is partnering with everywoman as title sponsor of these awards, demonstrating the


commitment of both the organisa- tion as well as its members to sup- porting women in the industry. Maxine Benson MBE, co- founder of everywoman, com- mented: “The transport and logistics sector is no longer an exclusively male environment, but we need to continue to raise awareness and get the message out about the diverse range of career opportunities it offers. Combilift wins ‘Best Exporter’ award


Specialist materials handling manufacturer Combilift has been named the Best Overall Exporter to Germany in the Irish Exporter to Germany Awards, organised by Enterprise Ireland and the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Combilift MD Martin McVicar accepted the trophy from Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn TD in a ceremony held in Dublin.


The awards marked 50 years of Irish export success to Germany and the 50th anniversary of the opening of Ireland’s first trade office in Frankfurt in 1962. The one off award presented to Combilift is the company’s third major accolade of 2012 following the company’s success at the FLTA awards for its RT and CB forklift models. Combilift entered the German market in 1999, just a year after the company was established and since then its increasing range of four-way handling solutions has notched up sales in excess of €100m to German companies, with a growth rate of 22 per cent being recorded in 2012.

New disposal rules


Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has warned that the rules cover- ing battery disposal have been toughened, with new regulations from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) stating that exhausted industrial batteries must be recycled and not sold to unregistered scrap dealers. Companies now need to take responsibility for what happens to the forklift truck batteries that they no longer want.
