New European Rail Congress to spread rail best practice throughout Europe

he new European Rail Congress, a vehicle to spread rail best practice across Europe and to help new market entrants to learn from the


more established players, is being supported by EU Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas and MEPs from the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee, with DG MOVE, EIM, EPF, ERFA and ERA all providing technical assistance. The European Rail Congress will stage a


prestigious awards ceremony and strategic rail summit. It brings the euro rail network together to celebrate its achievements in providing efficient, high quality and safe connectivity across Europe; reducing Europe’s emission of greenhouse gases; boosting jobs and economic growth; and facilitating European competitiveness. It also provides the chance for leading European players to debate and discuss the key challenges and opportunities for the


European rail market. Chair of the European Parliament’s


Transport and Tourism Committee and chair of the European Rail Congress’s awards judging panel, Brian Simpson MEP said: ‘These awards will encourage and reward European excellence across a wide spectrum of railway professionalism. It is particularly welcome that the views and opinions of highly regarded peers will determine the award winners.’


Project director Grant Poulton is calling for entrants to make their submissions online to the 19 different award categories by 19 April 2013: ‘We welcome entries from both EU and non-EU European countries. Entering is a great way to raise the profile of your successful operations right across the pan-European market.’ Award winners will be announced at the


inaugural 2013 Awards ceremony and dinner in London on 12th November 2013.
