THE OLYMPIC Stadium is due to re-open in July this year to host a number of music concerts. Following the success of
music showcased at the venue during the London 2012 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, it is said that promoters are looking to hold big gigs at the east London venue rather than Hyde Park. Live Nation, who had hosted events at Hyde Park for over a decade, abandoned negotiations to continue to hold concerts at the central London park until 2017 citing noise restrictions among other issues influencing its decision.
Last summer Hyde Park
was subject to residential noise complaints that resulted in the reduction of gigs at the location to nine from 13 as well as capacity restrictions – from 65,000 to 50,000. Dennis Hone, chief
executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “The exciting thing for us is that we have the opportunity to put on some major events in the park – some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on 27 and 28 July.” Wireless Festival and Hard
