has 10,000 times more RAM than StudioLive 24.4.2. A line of option cards will
be available for the StudioLive 32.4.2AI in late 2013. Every option card comes equipped with dual FireWire S800 and S/PDIF stereo output, as well as Ethernet (for control only). One card that adds Apple’s Thunderbolt for even faster digital transfers is in development, but a second card – perhaps more significantly – will underline PreSonus’ recent agreement with Audinate to incorporate Dante networking. Immediately after the
PreSonus launch, Music Group presented 28 new products to press and dealers, and raised a few eyebrows as it did so. The Nekkst K5 and K8 are Behringer’s new near-field monitors developed by renowned monitor designer and founder of KRK, Keith R Klawitter. Features include a patent-pending means of switching between studio tunings, as well as ultra-linear DSP correction, multiple analogue and digital inputs, iOS and Bluetooth connectivity. “Our primary consideration
was acoustic perfection, and we knew that with Keith Klawitter leading the project we were going to nail that objective,” commented Costa Lakoumentas, SVP marketing for Behringer parent company Music Group. The iQ series of live sound
cabinets features networking and signal processing technologies from Klark Teknik, but is built around Behringer’s iNuke Class D amplifiers, while carrying a ‘Turbosound’ marque to boot. The Milan series of powered loudspeakers is also new from Turbosound. Encompassing a total of five speakers including the new 12” two-way M12 and compact 15” band pass M15B subwoofer, the Milan series features Class D amplifiers, 1,000W of biamplified power (full-range models) coupled with Klark Teknik DSP, while the two subwoofer models are powered by 1,500W amplifiers with integral stereo crossovers, allowing left/right stereo systems to be built with only one subwoofer.

function to easily extend a Milan system with additional speakers. The switchable 100Hz low-pass filter ensures seamless integration when teamed with subwoofers, or when used on the floor as wedge monitors. Following a lead from
Mackie’s DM1608, perhaps, Behringer went on to unveil the iX16 digital mixer for iPad. The unit features 16 digitally- programmable, high-resolution Midas-designed mic pres, all controllable remotely from the supplied iPad app. Extensive control options include PC/Mac/Linux over Ethernet or WiFi as well as iPhone/iPod Touch for personal monitor mixing right out the box. But the climax of the launch
was four additions to the X32 product line: the X32 Compact, X32 Producer, X32 Rack and X32 Core. All 40-input channel, 25-bus models include
Klark Teknik-engineered AES50 ports, which can be connected to Behringer S16 Digital Snakes for expanded I/O regardless of mainframe size. “Game Over,” concluded Music Group, brazenly (…then had to say it again, when they realised they’d omitted a product by mistake). Despite recognising the fact
that large-format monitors are not a sector currently pursued by most manufacturers, Peter Chaikin, JBL Professional’s senior manager of recording and broadcast marketing, introduced the M2 master reference monitor at the customary Day One 9am Harman press call. A free-standing, two-way system that can be “placed in any production environment and tuned to provide a superior level of accuracy and performance”, the M2 employs

Si Expression 1, 2 and 3 offer 16-, 24- and 32-fader and mic inputs respectively; all three are capable of up to 66 inputs to mix by connecting any Soundcraft stagebox, including the two new Mini Stagebox 16 and 32 (16 x 8 and 32 x 16) models also launched at NAMM, or by connecting additional inputs over MADI or AES/EBU. unprecedented) endorsement of the M2 came later in the day, at a listening session away from the showfloor, when Grammy Award-winning producer Frank Filipetti demo’ed the system with content he had brought along especially. “I’ve kind of been looking for this [monitor] all my life,” he said, freely. “I’m willing to stake my 30-year reputation on this: there is nothing beyond the M2.” Soundcraft also launched its

Joining a small but ever- widening circle that includes Aviom, myMix and Roland, Allen & Heath launched its Personal Mixing System solution at NAMM. Universally compatible with Allen & Heath and other pro digital mixers, the ‘ME’ system is centred around the small, fully-customisable ME-1 personal mixer, powered and connected via Cat5 and capable of managing up to 42
