Dynamic mill toolpaths create a constantly adapting toolpath that delivers more consistent cutting conditions.
The toolpaths utilize the entire flute length of their cutting tools to produce the smoothest, most ef- ficient tool motion for high speed pocketing and core milling. This toolpath supports many powerful entry methods including a custom entry method, all designed to simplify the programming of complex pockets and standing core shapes.
Micro lifts further refine the dynamic milling motion and avoid excessive heat build up. Entry methods and the micro lifts support custom feeds and speeds to optimize and generate safe tool motion. Use dynamic mill’s flexible retract options to keep the tool down in smaller parts, and rapid retract on large parts.
Dynamic mill’s specialized motion works equally well with both “closed” and “open” parts.
Some new enhancement with the Mastercam X6 release include: • Variable Toolpath Radius • •
Zigzag Motion Support Outside Approach Control
Below is a comparison of Dynamic mill against a conventional zigzag toolpath. To highlight how the toolpaths can handle open pockets with islands and multiple entry points, we selected an open pock- et for the experiment.
Zigzag: A a feed rate of 30 IPM, the tool failed to when both sides were engaged for an extended time in the full material cut. At 15 IPM, the tool cut the pocket but the tool was close to failure, and took over 4 minutes to cut.
Dynamic: The experiment tested the toolpath to failure, and then the feed rate was adjusted to 40 IPM. The toolapth produced a reliable pocket operation in less than 3 minutes. Also, the chips cleared consistently and reliably.
