hroMyco Duo is a dual plate test with dermatophyte test media (DTM) on one side and an Enhanced Sporulation Agar (ESA) on the other.
Diagnosis C
The test is performed by veteri-
nary staff taking a pluck of fur or skin scrape from the lesion and innocu- lating both sides. After three to six days, if dermatophytes are present, the DTM will turn red and the ESA will turn blue-green.
Once a colour change is identi- fied, a sample of the culture can be taken from the ESA, a media prolific in growing dermatophytes. Veterinary staff are then able to examine the fun- gus microscopically and identify the species of dermatophyte before ad- vising on treatment. Invicta has prepared a free fun- gal identification chart to assist prac- tices with the identification of cultures and is providing free updates to sub- scribers, as images of new fungi are submitted by practices using the kit.

software is rapidly moving — which according to the manufac- turer brings a host of benefits to a veterinary practice.

The system has been de- veloped in partnership with a well- established veterinary practice, so it works the way vets work, rather than forcing clients to work a certain way to suit the system. Because VetIT is hosted on the web, users can gain secure access from any computer with a browser and an internet connection. This means that the system effortlessly supports concurrent access from multiple site locations, from home, and from mobile broadband laptops in the field. There is no messy networking
or synchronising — users see the live practice system wherever they are. The system is developed using the lat- est
Microsoft.net technologies, giving it up-to-the-minute usability and effi- ciency features and controls. Vets can drag and drop appointments in the diary, and can use tabs to navigate to a different part of the system without having to close what they are doing. Users can easily export data from the system for their own analysis.
