Sonoscape S6V for Equine Tendon Scanning
T
he SonoScape S6v for equine comes with Doppler as standard, and colour as an additional option. The Son- oScape S6v offers: high-density linear probes for endocavity preg- nancy scanning and high-quality leg/tendon scanning; numerous phased array, linear, and convex options for opthalmic and cardiac work; and internal battery for total portability. According to the manu- facturer, the resolution given with this probe is so incredibly high that previous, healed damage is clearly visible in scans.

Ultrasound Scanner Software
released a new version of its Easi- Scan Bovine ultrasound scanner software. The new software release includes the following
V features:
new ‘trapezodial’ imaging in late and ovary/early modes; and a multi-language menu. Trapezodial imaging creates a
wider field of view, meaning more can be seen from the same contact point. The resolution and focal band in all modes has also been improved. This allows the vet to see smaller details within the tissue, creating a sharper image over a greater depth, allowing for a more accurate interpretation of the image.
The software allows the operator the option to switch between the views, so if users prefer the old view, this is still possible. BCF will upgrade
customers’ software as
they have their scanners serviced, meaning there will be no additional
charge for this. Scot Cowan from BCF
commented to VSM, ”One of the key values of the business is to continually improve our technology in order to provide our customers with the tools to allow them more accurate and fast fertility and pregnancy diagnosis. The new Easi-Scan software allows a wider field of vision using existing Easi-Scan equipment, therefore allowing customers to see more of the uterus in less time.”

Treatment of Respiratory Disease in Cattle
R
espiratory disease in calves — caused by a range of different infectious agents — accounts for major economic loss to the agricultural industry. Although primarily an infectious disease, management factors are significant in dictating the incidence and severity of outbreaks.
Bisolvon® Injection and powder is indicated as an aid to the treatment of respiratory disease in cattle (and pigs and small animals) where mucus is a complicating factor. Bisolvon leads to the production of less viscous mucous and increases the concentration of administered antibiotics. Bisolvon is available in an injectable and oral formulation.

The vaccine has a zero-day withdrawal period. Revaccination depending on local field pressure and risk assessment can be considered in consultation with a veterinarian. This vaccine represents the
first effective vaccine that can be administered en masse to birds to prevent often devastating infections with E. coli in poultry. It represents an innovation for the market as the first ever product to be administered by coarse spray, claims Pfizer.

NSAIDS such as Metacam
are now standard therapy for the treatment of calf respiratory disease alongside antibiotic therapy. Metacam (in 20mg/ml solution injection for cattle) leads to a more rapid reduction in fever and reduction in long-term lung damage than antibiotics alone. Calves treated with Metacam
feel better, quicker, and show less impairment of feed intake and a resultant loss in productivity. Metacam differs from other available NSAIDs in that its effects last for three days and it is licensed for use in lactating cattle.
