SPOTLIGHT: Wound Management
Wound Cleanser
I
deal Vet Wound Cleanser is a professionally
formulated ad-
vanced wound cleansing solu- tion designed for use on wounds and skin. According to the manu- facturer, it provides a reliable and effective antimicrobial action and also assists the gentle physical re- moval of wound bioburden, which is known to lead to prolonged in- flammation and healing delay. Wound Cleanser is a combination of physiological saline, chlorhexidine, and mild surfactants that effectively and gently remove bacteria, debris, and the devitalised proteins and lipids associated with trauma and inflammation. The components are safe for use on all animals.
It is suitable for use on intact skin and open wounds. Each bottle of Wound Cleanser contains 250 ml of solution, usually capable of clearing 95% of the bacteria and slough. The cleansing force of the nozzle can be easily adjusted so that even challenging wound surfaces can be cleansed effectively.

KRUUSE Manuka Honey Wound Dressings
oney as a wound dressing has recently re-emerged medically following centu- ries of anecdotal use throughout the world. KRUUSE dressings are made with 100% pure Manuka, which has superior antibacterial activity primarily due to hydrogen peroxide generated by an enzyme that the bees add to the nectar of the Manuka flower. The range of dressings comes both in an absorbent version — KRUUSE Manuka AD — which is used to clean the wound (and later once the wound is cleaned and granulation has started) a non-adherent bandage is used — KRUUSE Manuka ND. Both versions come in 5 x 5cm and 10 x 12.5cm sizes as well as a roll of 10 x 100cm ideal for use on equine forelimbs. The KRUUSE Manuka Honey is also available in its pure form in a 15 g tube.

the military wounded, without a single serious adverse effect. Vetericyn VF replicates
the animal’s immune system by using a proprietary and non- cytotoxic formulation of oxychlorine compounds. These compounds, including hypochlorous acid, occur naturally
in animals as they are
released by neutrophils, the most abundant type of white blood cells, and which form an essential part of the immune system. Vetericyn’s mode of action against micro organisms mimics that of neutrophils in the body.
