Among other functions, urea plays a major role as a carrier of waste nitrogen in animal metabolism. Abnormal urea concentration levels may lead to reproductive disorders such as fertility problems, ovarian cyst appearance, or conceptive disabilities.

Urea
concentration levels give useful information about animal metabolic efficiency; they can highlight lack of or excess of protein intake. Therefore the continuous monitoring of urea concentration enables farmers to assess appropriate feed intakes and prevents potential money losses. High urea concentration levels can cause functional disturbance in the digestive process by lack of energy needs for fermentation. The rumen biodegradation paces of proteins from one side and carbohydrates on the other side can also be disrupted. Urea excess can also lower milk qualities for cheese production purpose. UréeVet-1 is a quick convenient way to semi-quantitatively approximate blood urea nitrogen levels in whole blood.

Underwater Treadmill for Physiotherapy T
he WATER-WALKER® under- water treadmill makes it pos- sible for an animal to exer- cise muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints of limbs following inju- ries and / or surgery. The buoyancy of the water removes much of the pressure from the painful limbs, and dogs quickly regain muscle tone and range of motion in limbs that have atrophied due to injury. The advantages of
hydrotherapy on dogs (aquatic therapy) with WATER WALKER® have been regognised and confirmed by a wide circle of experts.
The
aqua trainer (underwater treadmill) can be accessed and the movement of an animal can be easily observed through the glass from all sides for

he newly introduced Dram- inski iScan is an improved model that replaces the pop-
ular Animal Profi L, and boasts a new and more powerful processor, converter and electronics, which according to the manufacturer leads to sharper images and a fre- quency range of 4-9MHz. Contrast and brightness are also greatly im- proved (absolutely vital for work- ing in difficult lighting conditions), and the scanner’s greater range of greyscales allows for very detailed imaging of structures (such as the ovaries).

Schmallenberg Virus
DEXX Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics has announced the worldwide release of the IDEXX Schmallenberg Ab Test — a new indirect ELISA to help government and export laboratories identify antibodies to the Schmallenberg virus and other Simbu-serogroup viruses before trade or export. Schmallenberg and Simbu-
serogroup viruses are vector-borne and can cause congenital defects, abortions, and stillbirths
in cattle,
sheep, and goats. The IDEXX Schmallenberg Ab Test is a screening test that accurately detects antibodies to Schmallenberg virus.
SMALL ANIMAL
The new test has a high level of specificity (99.5%) and sensitivity (98.1%).
“IDEXX understands that
producers and purchasers need to know the serologic status of animals in order to make confident decisions about trade or export,” says Olivier te
Boekhorst, Vice President and
General Manager, IDEXX Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics and IDEXX Dairy. “This will help laboratories ensure that livestock are free of Schmallenberg antibodies before being moved.”
The IDEXX Schmallenberg
Ab Test uses 1x8 strip plates that support small volume testing and can easily scale up to larger volumes. The
test comes with ready-to-
use reagents and seamlessly integrates into automated work flows, enhancing the efficiency of existing processes.
