Tick Twister T


he innovative O’Tom Tick Twister is a tick removal sys- tem that


removes the tick


with a twisting motion, which does not compress the pest. According to the manufacturer,


it is the only instrument that allows the user to hold the tick without compressing it and to remove it with a twisting motion rather than pulling. The twisting motion is the key feature of the product as the spikes fold into the axis of rotation, and the tick is easily removed, without traction, decreasing the risks of breaking the rostrum.


In a comparison study of


four different tick-removal devices, published in the Veterinary Record, the O’Tom Tick Twister was compared with surgical forceps, a pen-tweezer


device, and a tempered steel tool (slit and traction action). The O’Tom Tick Twister proved


to be signifi cantly better than the other devices for the time required to remove the tick, the ease with which the tick was grabbed, the force needed to extract the tick, the reaction of the animal and the condition of the tick’s mouth parts.

Non-Toxic Tick Removal System


TicknerVet®


is a non-toxic tick removal system that kills and extracts ticks on a variety of animals includ- ing horses in 20 seconds. It does this with a rapid freezing spray and removal of the tick is done with the product’s built-in extractor. To remove the tick, simply


place TicknerVet® over the tick, pull the white button and the spray will freeze the tick. The tick can then be extracted by pressing the green button and later safely disposed of. TicknerVet® contains approxi-


mately 50 freeze applications and on average, this is suffi cient to remove 25 ticks.
