he Amplatz Canine Duct Oc- cluder is a self-expanding device made from a nitinol
wire mesh and is used to close patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in dogs. A distal flat disk on the pul- monary artery side of the ductal ostium provides secure position- ing in the pulmonary artery. As the device is implanted, the proximal cupped disk expands to conform to the shape of the ductal ampulla. The waist of the device spans the pulmonic ostium of the ductus and the dense nitinol mesh occludes the communication.
The Amplatz Canine Duct Oc- cluder is available in several waist diameters. The device should be sized relative to the true diameter of the pulmonic ostium of the ductus as measured by arteriography in a ratio between 1.5 and 2. Appropriate sizing is crucial to the success of the pro- cedure and can be accomplished only by arteriography.

solution to enable veterinary practices to make their web- sites accessible to clients using mobile phones and tablets has been launched by online vet- erinary information content com- pany Vetstream. The company’s ‘Webpartner’ service
builds and
manages websites for veterinary practices. It says it is offering the new solution, called Go Mobile, in response to growing demand from clients for mobile sites.
Data confirms that — within the next couple of years — the number of people accessing the internet from mobile devices will outstrip those us- ing desktop PCs. According to Vetstream, Go
Mobile enables websites to be con- verted into a form that is easier to read and navigate from the smaller screen of mobile phones and other devices. It does this by identifying and prioritising the content that mobile us- ers are most likely to require, and by adding specific navigational devices to enable these users to access the information they need quickly. It also offers specific benefits, including pro- viding a ‘click to call’ facility, and the ability to provide GPS directions to the practice from wherever the client is using their device. Vetstream, has developed
websites for more than 250 veterinary practices across the UK, and offers additional services including website
xternal skeletal fixation is an effective method of fracture repair in animals, rigidly stabilising fractures while maintaining a biologic environ- ment for rapid osteosynthesis. Veterinary researchers have defined optimal application techniques. These include us- ing type II fixators with full pins whenever possible, pre-drilling pilot holes, and using positive profile threaded pins. Securos states that it is committed to enabling the veteri- nary surgeon to easily apply science to the art of external fixation, and has therefore designed the Securos External Skeletal Fixation System. Fixator clamps are not pre-placed on connecting rods, but snapped on wherever needed, even between

Biomechanical testing has shown that the design of the Secu- ros External Fixator clamp results in greater fixator pin to connecting bar ridigity, reducing premature pin loosening. Securos has two sys- tem types available. The original patented Securos stainless steel clamps or the second generation Securos titanium clamps used in conjunction with radiolucent car-
bon fibre rods. Either system is avail- able in small or medium/large sizes for any size patient.

can be used for routine ear cleaning in dogs and cats. Epi-Otic has now been improved, giving a greater ability to dissolve grease and debris, with a pH of 7.6. Product improvements include an anti- adhesive complex, which prevents reinfection. The
E presence of monosaccharides prevents
bacteria from binding to cell surfaces, preventing proliferation and enabling easy termination and removal.
The new formulation also soothes with its physiological pH (7.6) and lubricates the irritated ear canal, while docusate sodium optimises the removal of waxy material, cellular debris and dirt, and gently and effectively dries the ear. Epi-Otic contains salicylic acid, lactic acid, and chitosanide.
