HANGING OUT WITH KATIE AND SARAH When Senior Editor Barbara Palmer joined Executive Editor Chrisopher Durso and Editor in Chief Michelle Russell at the sec- ond annual Convene Forum at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville on Oct. 28–30, she thought about how she could loop assistant editors Katie Kervin and Sarah Beauchamp — who were keeping this December issue moving along back at their home offices in Brooklyn, N.Y. — into the event. Barbara wrote: “It seemed to be at least worth a
try to use Google+ Hangouts. … My advance preparation was minimal; I checked to make sure that I could connect to Katie and Sarah before I left town. At the Forum itself, my biggest obstacle was trying to figure out where to put my laptop computer — I wanted Katie and Sarah to have the best experience possible, but I also didn’t want to block the view of anyone who was in the room. There were four sessions, and it wasn’t until the very last one that it struck me that I could put the laptop on a chair in front of a table and it would be out of the way. “I had no idea what to expect.
