THE NEWSPAPER FOR AMUSEMENT RIDES 3
THE SKYLOOP inspires China
Three Maurer SkyLoops are to domi- nate in three of the new Fantawild Group parks.
The first park is the “Fantawild Ad- venture Zhengzhou” which has alrea- dy opened. The SkyLoop has already made its first turns under the name of “Terror Twister” and has thrilled the guests. The park is located approx. 50 km (31 miles) outside of the 6 million- size local city. The park area with a size of approx. 700.000 m2
(173 acres)
consists of 35 attractions and open- ed on June 28th 2012. The SkyLoop dominates as the largest amusement ride in the park center in the middle of a lake landscape, allowing each of the guests a fantastic view of the en- tire park while turning slowly through the world’s highest inversions. But they do not have a lot of time to enjoy this view. Within seconds, this ride shoots
down 50 m (165 feet) and accelerates its guests to 105 km/h (65 mp/h) and presses them into their seats with an unbelievable 5g force.
The other two SkyLoops are in the com- missioning phase at the moment and are due to open according to schedule in the cities of Nantong and Xiamen.
The Fantawild Holding Inc. is an in- vestment group in the field of
tech-
nology and one of the world’s leading producers of electronic components. The company also invests in digital film productions, interactive games and theme parks. Fantawild has been operating a total of 18 amusement parks since 2006 and further openings are due in Nantong and Xiamen. But the company group is not content with this successful balance and new park projects will follow.
China places its trust in Maurer Rides Wuhan OCT »Happy Valley« with two Maurer coasters
Munich/Wuhan. China, the growing country of the superlatives, is con- stantly expanding its leisure indus- try. Where fireworks were invented thousands of years ago, today peo- ple desire roller coasters. OCT Happy Valley in Wuhan was opened on 29th April, 2012 – and two coasters from Maurer Rides also went into operati- on, a SkyLoop and a Launch Coaster. Typical Maurer: The X-Car is without shoulder restraints, to make the alrea- dy dramatic ride even more intense.

“Hidden Anaconda” is the name of the SkyLoop – but anyone who was expecting a sluggish giant snake is well and truly wrong: The guests shoot skywards in the Humpty Bump Lift, an upside-down ride, a 360° corkscrew and a vertical drop with 105 km/h (65 mph/h) – there is no waiting around. The X-Car without shoulder restraints makes the experience even more in- tense. The X-Cars glide very gently over the high-quality Maurer coaster rails – the finest of thrills with a flut- tering in the stomach and exhilaration written on their faces.

The new leisure park in Wuhan was planned by OCT (Overseas Chinese Town). OCT is one of the biggest Chi- nese companies in the field of urban development with hotels, real estate, tourism and cultural activities: OCT
implements museums, galleries, cultu- ral and leisure parks under the Happy Valley brand name. The Happy Valley in Wuhan is the group’s 6th park af- ter two in Shenzhen and one each in Beijing, Chengdu and Songjiang. Above all, the OCT management
was enthused about the intensive ride experience when riding the X- Cars. Overhead figures and tight, rapidly changing layouts give that special thrill but the ride gains that extra dramatic kick when the guests are free from any interfering shoulder restraints and are secured by only a lap bar. The fact that this still meets the toughest safety requirements is due to the high quality of production at the Maurer main factory in Munich.
Magical: XL 1000 The name of the
Launch Coaster
XL1000 in the new park says every- thing about it: “Magic Express” – it is just impossible to describe the fee- ling when the full power is used at the launch to accelerate from 0 to 70 km/h (45 mph/h) in 2 seconds and you are rammed back into your seat – and that just after leaving the stati- on. The guests experience one attrac- tion after another at unusually close intervals: the rocket-like start is follo- wed at once by an extremely compact special loop that goes directly into an Immelmann. A sharp Camelback with plenty of airtime lets the guests dream of weightlessness – until they come to the next exciting overhead
figure: a Half Cuban Eight. Followed by a Heartroll and an extremely ban- ked steep curve just before reaching the station. The special feature of the Magic
Express is that it is partially covered with a membrane roof. Moreover, the compact roller coaster is extremely energy-efficient. The built-in energy storage system limits the peak power drain to 135 kVA despite the specta- cular rocket-like start. However, the work of Maurer Söhne in China has not finished yet: Three more Sky Loops have been ordered for the Fantawild group, in Zhengzhou, Nan- tong and Xiamen.
