Holiday World 2013

What’s new at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in 2013? “We’re adding four new in-the- dark water slides in a complex called RhinoBlaster,” says park president Dan Koch. “The longest slide is 350ft and includes a half-pipe element, similar to our Zinga water ride, for a really cool back- and-forth skate-boarding effect.”

The new waterpark additions come after the venue in Santa Claus, Indiana, experienced one of its hottest summers on record in 2012. Guests at Splashin’ Safari will also be able to enjoy Holiday World’s former Pilgrims Plunge shoot-the-chute ride, which will be renamed Giraffica. “We’re not moving the ride, just the park boundary,” says Koch. “Splashin’ Safari’s entrance will also be expanded and we’re adding a new style of lockers.” Over at Holiday World, a teacup ride called Kitty’s Tea Party will be added to Holidog’s FunTown, while a larger high-dive pool, stage and seating area will replace the current theatre. Additional projects for 2013 include the expansion of Happy Hallowe’en Weekends to include six weekends , an after-dark light show for summer nights , 20 additional cabanas, misters and fans throughout both parks, and more shade structures and seating.

Skycoaster down under A new-look Skycoaster will open in 2013 at the new Wet ‘n’ Wild waterpark in Sydney, Australia. This particular installation will stand 251ft tall and feature significantly less steel than any other Skycoasters of similar size, a requirement that was necessary to help the attraction meet stringent Australian wind codes. The ride will be the second Skycoaster supplied to Wet ‘n’ Wild owner Village Roadshow, which also operates a number of properties up on the Gold Coast.

Skycoaster was acquired seven years ago by the US- based Ride Entertainment Group (REG), which operates a number of the attractions on a revenue share basis. As part of its safety initiative for the ride, REG bringing all of its parks and vendors together each year for Skycoaster University.

Oliver’s takes the plunge

with Mercedes With over 4,000 vehicles in stock, Mercedes Welt (World) in Berlin is one of the German marque’s largest global sales outlets – and more than just a car showroom. As well as browsing the latest Mercedes products 24 hours a day/365 days a year, visitors can also unwind in the on-site restaurant, whilst their children play on the climbing wall. To celebrate the launch this summer of the new Mercedes A-Class, Swiss stunt show provider Oliver’s Show was invited to stage six performances over a two-day period inside the four-storey Mercedes Welt building. The brief was for a first class show without any circus or comedy sequences.

Oliver’s Show founder Oliver Favre-Bulle assembled a team of seven of his best performers for this prestigious assignment, performed to a soundtrack of classical music. The show received a warm welcome from the dealership’s director Walter Müller who wrote, “The launch of the new A-Class at our Mercedes-Benz Branch Berlin has been a great success and you and your team played a major role. The show was fascinating and dynamic like our new A-Class. Thank you and your team for the dedication.” olivershow.com

Tivoli calls time on Big

Clock Visitors to Tivoli in Copenhagen were given their final opportunity to ride the park’s Det Store (Big Clock) family Ferris Wheel over the weekend of October 27/28. The ride, originally called Børnepariserhjulet, has provided 5,954,000 rides over the last 42 years.
