LEGO’s hotly anticipated new IP for 2013 has been announced as Legends of Chima, a fusion of animal and tribal worlds. The range includes combination of buildable figures, play-sets, ‘Speedorz’, board game and associated licensed product – to allow ‘fast, action- packed immersion’. LEGO Friends goes in to 2013 with


new products ranging from pocket money animal-based collectibles to mid- range treats and hero products. Blind bag collectable Minifigures will see two launches in early 2013. In LEGO City, new themes will include


Fire and Elite Police, plus an extension to this year’s Great Vehicles concept which targets treats and loyalty purchase opportunities. Now in its third year, LEGO Ninjago will continue to expand the ninja storyline. Action figure line Hero Factory will see the addition of more characters and improved versions of favourite models. New combi models – which combine a Hero and Villain figure – aim to encourage children to ‘beef up’ their heroes. In Technic, key for Q1 are two new low price point action vehicles, which use pull back motors and offer a simple build for boys new to Technic.


RE:CREATION


The LEGO Star Wars universe will expand by introducing novelties and well-known redesigned best sellers. The line-up includes Yoda Chronicles – an overarching theme for the company to support a fully integrated campaign. New content to support the Chronicles include LEGO-related movies. The partnership between LEGO and DC Comics and Marvel, will see the unveiling of more Batman, Superman, Spider-man and Iron Man lines. A selection of products will be launched between January to May. Carrying over from the launch of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey range in December, the company will continue to invest in and promote the IP into the New Year. Featuring a library of characters and settings from the first instalment of the epic film trilogy, the range will give fans of all ages a chance to build and play out the fantasy story.

Launching in January, a new vehicle- based sku designed to teach pre- schoolers how to count will be the big focus for the brand.


This will line up alongside a number of new starter sets. These will work to expand the target age range downwards and increase recruitment from a younger age, offering simple builds and bigger bricks, new shapes, decorations and features, plus a strong price offering. As well as a boys equivalent to


Creative Cakes, two new Disney Princess sets will appeal to the girls audience. Two new fun stories will also join the Bricks and Books range and complementary extensions to the existing LegoVille assortment will offer further role-play opportunities with vehicles, characters and animals.

New for 2013 is the world of Micro Moshi. The Micro Collectables pack contains seven Micro Moshlings, while Micro Mega Heads have exclusive surprise Moshlings inside.
