WATERPARK ROUND-UPBugis Waterpark Adventure Indonesia

Opened on May 27, Bugis Waterpark Adventure occupies a 7-hectare site in Perumahan Bukit Baruga, South Sulawesi, and is now one of the largest waterparks in Indonesia. Its debut follows years of planning by Pt Baruga Asrinusa Development and the Kalla Group, alongside supplier Polin Waterparks and Pools Systems.

While the developers were intent on creating a world-class facility, they also wanted to maintain the region's traditional cultures and values, and this is evidenced both in the park’s design and also the names of its attractions and individual zones. Visitors, for example, can enjoy such areas as Allabuang (harbour/port), Kampong Rilau (fishing village) and Goa Bartu Kalibampa (butterfly caves). The Bugis are an ethnic group of farmers originating from South Sulawesi but increasingly found in port cities like Makassar. Many of those outside the city live in stilted houses or small huts in the fields. Visitors to Bugis Waterpark Adventure can choose from 10 waterpark attractions including Pipa Wae (fast Aquatube body slide), Matanre (Free Fall speed slide), Tappasorong (Multi Slide mat racer), Mattulili (body

slide), Mapettang (Black Hole) Wae Massolo (leisure river), Kollang To'Lompo (main pool), Kollang Ana'Ana (children's pool) and Kollang Piii' (whirlpool). Open from Tuesday to Sunday, admission to Bugis Waterpark Adventure is Rp 50,000 on weekdays (€4.50/$5.65) or Rp 100,000 at weekends.

Translucent slides offer rider interaction

Waterslides are great fun for those taking the plunge, but it’s often not until they splash

down into the pool below that

other waterpark guests get see anyone

riding them. That’s where two recent installations differ.

Kong, Polin Waterparks & Pool Systems replaced three body slides with new translucent slides coloured blue, yellow and purple. Produced using Polin’s closed moulded Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) technology, all three slides offer a superior shiny and smooth surface on both sides coupled with a glass-like look.

Installed

recently at the American waterpark Funtown Splashtown USA in

Maine, the first Flatline Loop from WhiteWater

is made from SilkTek translucent fibreglass to provide clarity and strength. This twin-slide set-up finished in green features the added thrill of an AquaLaunch capsules at the top of the tower.

Riders wait for the countdown, and then plummet into a heart-stopping 60ft (18m) freefall before speeding into a looping waterslide and a final splash into the shutdown lane.
