Mountain Coaster Camelback adds toboggan ride
Camelback Mountain Resort, Tannersville, Pennsylvania, has added a new attraction called the Mountain Coaster. Built in-house by the Aquatic Development Group (ADG), it consists of a 4,500ft (1,372m) stainless steel track that’s 38ft (12m) at its highest point, with two vast 360° turns. The toboggan-style coaster is a year round attraction designed to entertain guests at both Camelback and the summer Camelbeach waterpark. Cars are pulled up the ski slopes ready for riders to board at the top. Each car seats two people with a maximum weight of 350 pounds (159kg). The ascent takes about five minutes, during which riders enjoy great views of the surroundings. Then gravity takes over, but passengers control the speed and the brakes as they
head down, gaining maximum speeds of 25 to 30mph (40 to 48kmh). “The Mountain Coaster is on a low impact track that is staked to the ground, providing an environmentally friendly, ecologically sound experience,” explains Ken Ellis, ADG president of and co-owner of Camelback Mountain Resort. “This is the wilderness and it’s important to keep it that way.” Various safety features have been built into the Mountain Coaster system. Get too close to the car in front of you and the brakes will automatically come on. Take your seat belt off, and again the brakes will come on for protection. There are less than 10 Mountain Coasters currently operational in the United States, but this is
Taking the plunge in Galveston
Following our coverage of Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier in the July issue of Park World, we are pleased to bring you some more shots of the venue's flume ride, courtesy of Interlink. The Pirate’s Plunge forms part of multi- million dollar renovation of this historic Texas attraction by Landry's restaurant entrepreneur Tillman Fertitta. The ride is approximately 280m (918ft) in length and features two drops, one of 6m (19.5ft) and – for a bigger splash – 12m
(39ft). It is one of 16 rides on the pier.
“Building the flume onto a pier structure was very different to installing on land,” notes Interlink’s John Hudd. “Tthe limited access available brought its own set of challenges which I’m pleased to say we successfully overcame.”

Family Constrictor at Waylon’s Water World
WhiteWater’s first Family Constrictor waterslide installation has opened at Waylon's Water World, adjoining the Z Fun Factory Family Entertainment Center in Yuma, Arizona.
The attraction swallows three-person
family rafts into its depths, down through a series of spirals and tight, high banking turns. With a flume that starts at 7ft (2.1m) in width, expands to 10ft (3.1m) and then constricts back again, the waterslide lives up to its name. Meanwhile the the Family Constrictor's custom designed snakeskin façade creates an interesting addition to the waterpark’s landscape.
