Theme Park & Resorts World Asia Congress


Hot on the heels of a similar event this summer, a new conference targeting the theme park and attractions industry is scheduled next month in Shanghai


W


ith Asia-wide theme park attendance forecast to be as high as 290 million by the end of this year and spending up from US$6.4 billion to $8.4 billion, it’s no wonder new theme parks, resorts and casinos are scheduled to open from Singapore to Seoul – including Shanghai Disneyland – targeting Asia’s rapidly growing middle classes. Theme Park & Resorts World Asia Congress (opplandcorp.com/park), which takes place from October 24 to 26 at the Intercontinental Pudong hotel, comprises a pre-conference workshop and two days of seminars followed by an optional visit to the Happy Valley Shanghai theme park and Sheshan National Tourist Resort on Saturday, October 27. The event is expected to bring property developers, theme park operators, entertainment companies, designers, suppliers and consultants together to share insight into park and resort development, and explore new business opportunities.


The full conference agenda had yet to be released at the time of


writing, but topics and themes include the transformation of theme parks into integrated resorts to cater to "staycation" trends; the challenges and opportunities of developing home-grown theme parks to cater to Asian idiosyncracies; waterpark design; the Disneyland


DNA USA


Postponed from earlier in the year, the USA’s first DNA conference, dedicated to


digital out-of-Home interactive entertainment, takes place in Los Angeles on October 2 and 3.


The event follows a smaller conference earlier last year in London and will feature such sessions as 3D Interactive Experiences in Public Places, Augmented Reality's Next Stage in Leisure Facilities, New Models of Interactivity in Movie Theatres, and The Next Generation Arcade. A networking reception is planned on the first night. Speakers include Kevin Williams
