SIX FLAGS 2013
Six Flags has revealed its plans for 2013 at its 19 amusement parks and waterpark across North America. Read on for some of the highlights
In Jackson, New Jersey, Six Flags Great Adventure will undergo a dramatic transformation as the main amusement park is combined with the former Wild Safari to create what is billed as, “the world's largest regional theme park.” Guests will now view the safari park's 1,200 animals as part of a new attraction called Safari Off Road Adventure, or fly high above some of them on a zip line. Meanwhile Great Adventure's adjacent Hurricane Harbor waterpark will unveil a massive slide complex from ProSlide called Big Wave Racer.
Over in California, north of Los Angeles, Six Flags Magic Mountain will add a triple launch coaster from Premier Rides that will become the world’s tallest, fastest looping coaster. Accelerating from zero to
SeaWorld launches DVD collection
Fans of SeaWorld can now enjoy some of the American park chain's most popular live entertainment in the comfort of their home thanks to the SeaWorld Home Entertainment DVD Collection. One Ocean, featuring Shamu the killer whale, is the subject of a series of three new releases from In Motion Distribution. The show, which is a current highlight of each SeaWorld park in Orlando, San Diego and San Antonio, can be seen on DVD together with special features and behind-the-scenes footage. Birds and dolphins are the subject of Blue Horizons, while a third DVD captures Shamu’s previous show, Believe. A further three DVDs are available dedicated to the stories of SeaWorld/Busch Gardens’ lions, sharks and killer whales. The SeaWorld Home Entertainment DVD Collection is available from US retailers, SeaWorld merchandise stores and online from In Motion. 5% of the sales from each release will benefit SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment’s conservation fund.

70mph+ on two forward launches, Full Throttle will include a unique “Top Hat” element where the track travels over the top of the 160ft-tall loop below. Additionally, Full Throttle will feature a third, backward loop into an effects tunnel. With addition of this ride, Magic Mountain will consolidate its position as, “the Thrill Capital of the World” with 18 rollercoasters – more than any other park on the planet. The world's tallest Star Flyer is destined for Six Flags Over Texas, courtesy of Funtime – although Park World understands that the Steel Pier in New Jersey will get a ride of equal height. The 400ft-tall (122m) Texas SkyScreamer will be 5m taller than at the existing 117m-tall ride Prater in Vienna, Austria. The neighbouring Hurricane Harbor waterpark will celebrate its 30th season by adding holographic imagery and sound effects to its Black Hole slide. A more modest Sky Screamer/Star Flyer will open at Six Flags Over Georgia, Atlanta, standing at 242ft-tall. Twenty miles north, at Six Flags White Water, a Typhoon Twister bowl slide from ProSlide will be added to line-up. Following the transformation this season of the
Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas, the Iron Rattler at San Antonio’s Six Flags Fiesta Texas is in line for similar ‘hybrid’ treatment from Rocky Mountain Construction. The wooden coaster will get new steel
track made of I-shaped box section, allowing it to provide four over-banked turns and a complete barrel-roll inversion. Meanwhile Six Flags Over Texas’ old Vekoma Boomerang gets a new home at Six Flags St Louis, Missouri. Flying into The Great Escape, Queensbury, New
York, the Screamin’ Eagles (Flying Scooters) from Larson International are apparently the first of many upcoming changes for the 2013 season. Located on a beautiful island near downtown Montréal, La Ronde in Canada will welcome Aqua Twist, a Twist ‘n’ Splash interactive water ride from Mack. Both the Hurricane Harbor waterparks at Six Flags New England, Massachusetts, and Six Flags America, Maryland, will introduce Bonzai Pipeline slides from ProSlide featuring “Drenaline Drop” launch capsules. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom near San
Francisco will present new live entertainment in the shape of Cirque Dreams Splashtastic, an aquatic show featuring aerialists, acrobats and dolphins. Over at Six Flags Great America near Chicago, igNIGHT – Grand Finale, promises to fuse singing and dancing with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and pyrotechnics. And, for the first time ever, the Fright Fest event enjoyed by guests at all other Six Flags parks over Hallowe’en will appear in October at Six Flags Mexico as Festival del Terror.
