Biology students have the opportunity to participate in an intensive 12-day fi eld experience in Costa Rica that focuses on various aspects of tropical forest ecology and conservation issues confronting developing countries in the neotropics. The emphasis of the course is on basic aspects of tropical rainforest ecology and the natural history of tropical organisms. Students conduct fi eld research projects on such topics as the peculiarities of tropical agriculture, the socioeconomic consequences of development in the tropics, and the conservation of tropical ecosystems.
