Stockport Pyramid

he Co-operative Bank’s Pyramid building in Stockport today (13 August) became the first major data centre in the world to use a compressed air electricity generating system to supply backup power. The new environmentally-friendly system uses clean, compressed air and replaces scores of lead acid batteries which were needed to supply power in case the mains electricity supply was interrupted. The compressed air scroll generators that form the heart of the system are designed and manufactured by Pnu Power in the UK (Part of Energetix Group PLC). These combined with one of the world’s most efficient double-conversion Uninterruptible Power Supply systems (UPS) manufactured by SOCOMEC makes for an extremely efficient back-up power supply without compromising power quality.

orri Ltd continues to break boundaries with its extensive range of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solutions. The company’s latest success has been achieved with its transformer-based ECO UPS range, which has retained a prime position on the prestigious Energy Technology List (ETL). Developed through the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) government scheme, the ETL criteria has recently been modified to include higher efficiency thresholds and more stringent operational benchmarks to ensure that only best in class products benefit from the 100 percent first year capital tax relief. Despite the challenging changes to the ETL specifications, the performance of Borri’s three phase ECO UPS range has continued to stand out from other comparable transformer-based UPS solutions.

Intelligent Power Manager™ software E

aton has launched the latest version of its Intelligent Power Manager™ software with new capabilities designed to enhance disaster recovery failover and planned migration within VMware® vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager. The update provides automatic virtual machine synchronisation and initiation of a backup site to avoid data loss and reduce downtime during power outages when shutting down servers is unavoidable. Eaton is the first power management company to offer such capabilities within the VMware platform. The software update coincides with Intelligent Power

Manager’s achievement of VMware Ready™ Status, VMware’s highest level of endorsement, following a detailed validation process. The software can be found on the VMware Solution Exchange, a single destination site for compatible VMware applications and cloud infrastructure products.

New double-conversion battery option C

ritical Power Module (CPM) systems provide constant protection against surges, sags, and power interruptions that can disrupt

operations or cause loss of valuable data or system capacity. The introduction of the new CPM means Finning can now offer one of the industry’s lowest cost operating systems using both battery and flywheel UPS technology. Available as standard with double- conversion 160kVA UPS systems, units can be tailored from 60kVA up to 500kVA using other ratings from the Cat diesel generator set and double-conversion battery UPS ranges. The double-conversion system is integrated seamlessly with a Cat GEH275 generator set in a container measuring just 20ft, reducing the installation footprint and increasing reliability in a continuous power configuration.
