For more than three years, QLight Nanotech and Merck have been carrying out joint research into this new class of materials as part of a partnership program sponsored by the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor. Merck’s investment will help the company to accelerate the development of quantum dot-based technology for new applications. Upon the achievement of R&D milestones, Merck could further increase its stake in Qlight Nanotech, as well as develop and commercialize the new products in its Performance Materials division. Standard & Poor’s raised the outlook of Merck’s current "BBB+" rating to positive from stable.

MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS), a leader in innovative ultra-miniature laser display technology, announced the closing of its public offering of 4.2 million shares of its common stock and warrants to purchase 2.1 million shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $2.50 per share and accompanying warrant. MicroVision received net proceeds, after deducting the underwriting discount and estimated offering expenses, of approximately $9.7 million from the offering. Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. acted as underwriter for the offering. MicroVision intends to use the net proceeds of the offering for general corporate purposes.

Namib Beetle Design won $10,000 during the Boston College Venture Competition (BCVC). The company uses a technology in order to optimize water harvesting techniques. The founders based their design on the namib desert beetle, that uses nanotechnology to trap water from condensation. The company is currently seeking venture financing.

Nanocomp Technologies, Inc., a developer of performance materials and component products from carbon nanotubes (CNTs), has entered into a financial and strategic development relationship with DuPont (NYSE: DD). In addition to participating in Nanocomp’s current financing round, DuPont has agreed to work with Nanocomp to develop products utilizing its CNT sheet and yarn materials together with offerings from the DuPont Protection Technologies business unit, in support of further advancing ballistics protection and core structure applications for their markets. With this announcement, DuPont becomes the latest entity to participate in Nanocomp’s larger, $25 million Series C investment
