PANISH NATIONAL TEAM SOCCER PLAYERS, SEEN ON TELEVISION, MAGAZINES, websites — everywhere, after their European Championship victory over Italy ® are dynamic, charismatic, sensational cover models. All sports people are considered to be exciting, Ô fitÕ (i.e. attractive in UK slang), and are generally admired. And the reason is obvious. They are healthy; follow diets designed for maximum health; they exude confidence and are content. In the medical cosmetics and anti-ageing industry, we try to emulate this peak fitness

and vitality. To restore/regain/rejuvenate ® going back to recover what you once had; to maintain what youÕve got; and in some cases, to give you what you what you never had, both internal and external. WeÕ re talking about appearance, and on the other hand, physiology and psychological wellbeing. ThereÕs an important dynamic between the internal and external characteristics of our patients. Some medical aesthetic practitioners will scorn anti-ageing practitioners as obsessed with diet, or

working with treatments that arenÕt necessarily evidence-based. Equally, medical anti-ageing personnel may scorn medical cosmetics as shallow or temporary in comparison with physiological change. Yes, there are aspects of medical cosmetic practice which are difficult to defend, such as the inappropriate repeated application of a single treatment modality when a multi-modality treatment is necessary; or the quick-fix treatments that do not consider the whole face for example, and therefore fail to achieve the desired outcomes ® the return to natural beauty that is the aim of expert treatment. But medical aesthetics treatments do run deep. Fix the external and the internal blossoms. As

practitioners, we have seen the happiness, and sometimes tears, as a patient recovers youthful good looks through treatment. Then we find that theyÕ re Ôgoing out againÕ, have started going to the gym again, and are now properly following a healthy diet to lose those few extra pounds. A life change, all from a few injections in the right place. At the same time, anti-ageing practitioners have witnessed the changes in vitality and looks that can

come from a well designed hormone treatment programme based on blood testing and hormone rebalancing regimen. IÕve seen the effect of even just a simple vitamin C programme based on testing, and then vitamin C supplementation, leading to the healing of a split lip, bleeding gums and lethargy. Whether youÕ re working in anti-ageing or treating people to specifically improve their looks, itÕs

working to the same end. WeÕ re following the perennial aim of the doctor: to improve the health of the patient, both psychologically and physiologically. After treatment, patients should both look and feel better, and this is not divisible. Looks affect the health and vitality of the patient. The internal physiology affects the looks of the patient. Now, if we could just work on the genes to make my partner look like Spanish soccer hero Fernando Torres, then medical interventions would be complete.
