Since giving birth to Moshi Monsters, the Shoreditch studio has turned the brand into a global phenomenon with 60m registered users spread over 150 territories. NaturalMotion Games

The big move for NaturalMotion was My Horse, a title with a focus on 3D, polished visuals and free-to-play mechanics. It also laid the groundwork for a new London office, a dedicated QA facility and expansions at its Oxford and San Francisco teams.

Stainless Games

This year Stainless Games bought back the rights to one of its first creations, and in doing so won the chance to revamp its Carmaggeddon IP. The company has also highlighted how a digital product has the potential to aid a physical goods sister brand, as proven by its successful Magic: The Gathering game for Xbox Live Arcade.

Rovio Entertainment

Having spread its wings after the success of Angry Birds, Rovio Entertainment has gone from strength to strength, with the the hugely successful mobile game reaching its billionth download earlier this year. 2012 has seen the company purchase fellow Finland games company Futuremark Games and the IP Casey’s Contraptions, with designs on a future flotation.

It has been a year of change for nDreams. Having made it through the PSN hacking incident and completed the transition from work-to-hire to publishing, the company has secured its first external investment and expanded its team by almost 50 per cent.
