Featuring the dark alleys and rainsoaked streets of Gotham City, the latest game in the franchise pushed players through a part of the city that has been cut off and used as a prison. Rocksteady impressed with the consistent design and unique styling for each of the villians that dominated the landscape.


Battlefield 3 (EA Dice)


The latest instalment in the franchise impressed users and critics alike with its visuals. Detailed weaponry and war- torn landscapes showed off the debut performance from EA Digital Illusion’s Frostbite 2 game engine, helping to establish a sophisticated rival to Call of Duty.


Dear Esther (Thechineseroom)


This unique cult hit plays out like a ghostly stroll through an oil painting and was singled out for praise thanks to its visually impressive locations ranging from moonlit beaches, dimly lit caves and ominous landscapes dominated by thick dark clouds.


Rayman Origins (Ubisoft Montpellier)


Proving that 2D platformers still have the capacity to innovate and excite in a market dominated by 3D titles, the return of this long-running icon saw players run through colourful, detailed, fantastical landscapes that rightly brought the title, and its aesthetics in particular, critical acclaim.


Trine 2 (Frozenbyte)


Stunning art direction brings Frozenbyte’s fantasy fairy tale to life. Trine 2 sent players through lush green forests and buildings being ripped apart by giant octopuses with a visually exciting world alive with movement, traps and giant mythical creatures.


Wonderputt (Damp Gnat)


Damp Gnat’s crazy golf title unfolds in just one screen that evolves as a treasure box full of surreal surprises when each completed hole triggers wonderful events, from pop-up UFO cattle abductions to snow storms capable of transforming a farm into a ski slope for penguins.
