MANAGED SERVICES cloud

Management category to help companies adopt cloud and hybrid environments without losing sight of what is required to measure, manage, and ensure the right levels of quality needed by their internal or external customers.

QWhat are the strengths of being able to offer such a wide- ranging product portfolio?

A After the enormous economic pressures of the last five years, IT is now facing a “New Normal” where there is a rising set of

expectations for fast, secure, always on catalogue of IT services, delivered to a bewildering array of devices. But at the same time IT getting less funding with no hope of incremental funding on the horizon. In short, IT must do more with less while facing increasing demands on their levels of quality, capacity, and responsiveness to change. CA Technologies is there to support CIOs optimising their IT investments so that they can move from maintenance to innovation and achieve business goals on pace with the urgency felt by the business.

As they navigate this difficult time and juggle with physical, virtual and cloud platforms, the framework is perfectly positioned to support them

a) Virtualisation

Virtualisation is an important topic, not just because it is so important to IT’s economic, security, and agility concerns, but because of the strategic implications of vendor selection. While virtualisation is a great technology for abstracting away certain dependencies, it comes with a few itself. At CA Technologies we offer platform agnostic solutions so that you can use the same management tools across a variety of virtualisation platforms. This means your management can be best in class rather than vendor based. A good example of why this is important is with our Capacity Management solution where you are able to not only understand the capacity trends and needs of your current environment but you can forecast what the most profitable virtualisation platform would be to run your current workloads on whether you are moving from a physical server environment or are considering moving from one hypervisor platform to another or are just looking at how you might change the mix of your workload allocation since most IT shops run more than one hypervisor.

b) The Cloud We’ve already talked a lot about CA Technologies’ offerings and the cloud but let me mention again that we have solutions that are cloud based themselves like our offerings from Nimsoft. Two other ways of thinking about CA Technologies’ cloud offerings is to think

finding the right CA Technologies solution or service, no matter what stage they are at.

QAnd do you ever wish that you offered just a few less (!)/is this diversity ever seen as a weakness by any potential customers?

A Well it’s interesting you should say that. The challenge with a broad set of offerings comes when those offerings are scattered

all over the IT landscape with no organising framework other than a company’s brand. If you have ever tried to buy from a company that didn’t rationalise and streamline their portfolio like CA Technologies has done you know what I mean. It’s like going to a flea market. At CA Technologies we have kept this in mind while making acquisitions such as AppLogic, Nimsoft and ITKO and extending existing products. I’ve already mentioned the BSI framework and that helps, but I should stress that we have kept a tight focus on our investment decisions by keeping our customers and partners in mind to make sure that we are able to partner with customers and work with them on the things that will enable them to change from simply managing and maintaining IT to delivering business services.

QSpecifically, can you say a little bit about each of the following in relation to how they are/will be addressed by your product

portfolio?

A Sure, I’m not going to have the time to go into a lot of detail, but let me share with you a few ways our portfolio can help:

about it in terms of building on IT’s current paradigm or leapfrogging to a new application paradigm. In the first situation, for those who want to move incrementally towards a cloud, we offer solutions like CA Automation Suite for the Cloud where you can literally stand up a private cloud using your existing infrastructure in a few hours. That means getting to cloud characteristics like self-service, metered consumption, resource pooling, elastic capacity, automated processes, and so forth, is within easy reach. It is a solution that focuses on closing that “new normal” gap I mentioned, between the rising expectations on IT in the face falling or flat budgets. With regards to the second, leapfrogging to a new application paradigm that radically changes the time and economics of deploying and scaling an application we, or rather our customers have some breakthrough successes with CA AppLogic. While time doesn’t permit me to get into this solution, suffice it to say, if you are interested in a 10x improvement in how quickly you can deploy, scale, migrate applications across MSPs or data centres then this is a game changing solution for you.

c) Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery CA Technologies continues to offer some of the best technology on the market for automating the processes associated with DR. A lot of time customers can claim to have the best DR tools on the planet or the best ITBC processes ever imagined, but if the tools aren’t used and the processes aren’t followed, then you are at risk. What’s more manual processes are not free and it is much better to have your skilled IT staff designing process improvements than doing mundane tedious work. CA Process Automation is a solution that can also be a real game changer here, not just because of what it can do in this
