FORGING A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MEDIA
Throughout 2011 we expanded our media relations programme to incorporate new press contacts in sector-specific publications and we further developed existing relationships with key trade press.
Some significant research was conducted, specifically into key press ‘Feature’ slots, and the Features Editors of key press were targeted with details about CPI and our activities.
As a result, coverage in trade press including press releases, market reports, editorial features and expert opinion pieces was strengthened.
Of the 18 press releases issued in 2011, CPI received coverage 115 times, not to mention inclusion in specific, relevant feature articles 20 times, as well as various pieces of additional publicity.
We will continue to build on this in 2012, supported by a new contacts monitoring service which will enable us to target more directly and build relationships with relevant journalists across the key trade press.
The Corrugated Sector continued to target trade media specifically with its key messages on recyclability and sustainability; efficiency and versatility; opportunities for printing and branding. Increasingly throughout 2011, the message turned towards the innovative nature of the industry. The year saw more than 45 media appearances in the packaging trade press, continuing the success of previous years.
• CPI’s communications experts spent 2011 working tirelessly to get the message across.
EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION
During the year we embarked on a complete revision of the content and format of our education material for schools.
The project was managed by a government-approved education consultancy. It began in August, with a view to a launch of the revised material in early 2012.
The programme, called ‘PaperWorks’, provides teaching packs with high quality curriculum-linked multimedia resources covering ages five to eighteen. The web-based packs will include video presentations, project ideas and comprehensive teaching notes that emphasise the resource-efficient and sustainable nature of our Paper Industry.
