COMMUNICATING WITH OUR MEMBERS
The year saw 21 editions of CPI News, containing the latest, most pertinent news and issues for our Members.
Fourteen Members’ Circulars were sent out, with action and information on key issues ranging from National Pay Settlement negotiations to Communications Strategy.
The Director General’s Report In July a report from the Director General was distributed to senior CPI contacts.
David Workman wrote it in response to feedback, with the aim of keeping Members informed of his activities and developments and progress on industry issues. It also updated them on Government liaison and lobbying, as well as CPI activity in general.
MAKING A REAL DIFFERENCE THROUGH LOBBYING MPs Newsletters
Newsletters to all Members of Parliament were distributed in January, June and October. The Newsletter ensures that MPs, many of whom have Members in their constituencies, are kept up to date with news affecting our industry.
As in previous years, the Corrugated Sector also sent mailers directly to MPs in July and September, focusing in part on the message ‘”Corrugated packaging – an indispensable ally of the food and drink industry”.
ePolitix
We updated and expanded our content on the ePolitix website – part of the Dods PoliticsHome website used by MPs, their researchers and political commentators. Here we achieved significant coverage on some key issues.
Of particular note were articles published on PoliticsHome regarding the Autumn Statement in November and industry views of 2011 in December. Coverage included an interview with Andrew Barnetson about the Corrugated Parliamentary Reception.
We also received coverage as part of the ePolitix ‘Business and the Economy Focus’ in August, and the Packaging Debate in July, with comments from David Workman.
All Party Parliamentary Groups CPI is actively engaged with five Parliamentary Groups: • All Party Manufacturing Group • All Party Parliamentary Group on Packaging • The Associate Parliamentary Environment Group • The Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Resource Group • The All Party Group for Energy Intensive Industries
Involvement in these groups ensures Paper-based Industry issues remain at the forefront of key discussions. Affiliations
CPI also has a considerable network of alliances within UK industry including: • The Packaging Federation (PackFed) • The Industry Council for Packaging and the Environment (INCPEN) • Energy Intensive Users Group (EIUG) • Paper Agents Association (PAA) • Emmissions Trading Group (ETG) • Manufacturers Climate Change Group (MCCG) • IPPC Sounding Board
In addition to these UK industry groups, CPI represents Members within Europe through the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI), European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) and European Recovered Paper Association (ERPA).
