Employment affairs
Employment Affairs continues to offer a valued and highly regarded service to CPI Member companies. For conforming sites, the national agreements in the Papermaking and Corrugated Sectors allow reasonable pay awards to be agreed which can be offset by local productivity and cost recovery negotiations. The procedures for avoiding disputes can help secure resolutions to site issues and so maintain good industrial relations across the sectors.
In 2011, national pay awards were negotiated against a backdrop of increasing inflation and the impact of austerity measures. However, the pay negotiating committees successfully reached sensible settlements that encouraged stable industrial relations.
All CPI Members can contact the Head of Employment Affairs for information and guidance on current legislation, pay settlement and economic data, together with advice on annual hours, working arrangements and general human resource issues.
As well as keeping up to date with pay settlements, economic data and employment law, both current and planned, Employment Affairs continued to be proactive in maintaining professional relationships with CPI Members and Union Officials from Unite and the GMB. This allows us to have a real understanding and knowledge of today’s Industry requirements and Union agendas. This proved to be of great value when chairing Industry Conferences and finding resolutions to industrial relations issues throughout the year.
