A survey was carried out recently about customer service in our stores with some interesting results. Some of our high street names such as Halfords and WH Smith were poorly rated with Lush, Apple and John Lewis coming out well. Of the supermarkets, Tesco was in the bottom rung with Morrison’s scoring highly. With consumer spending down during these challenging times, customer

satisfaction should be an important consideration for all businesses. Our Talk Shop feature this month is from Teed Tools in Salisbury. My brother frequents this store and remarked on their friendliness. Alan, the managers ‘Top Tip’ is “The customers always come first so listen to their requests and do your best to either get what they are after or, as importantly, give them advice on where to buy if you cannot help”. I have been visiting quite a few of the retail outlets on our mailing list over the past couple of years and many of them have impressed me with their friendliness and professionalism. In this trade it is particularly important to have good knowledge of the products and keep up to date with the latest innovations. Businesses that do so and provide excellent customer service are thriving and as Alan says “there will always be a need for tools.” ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine is a valuable source of the information needed to help achieve excellent customer satisfaction. In this edition we have plenty of information on new products

particularly in our features this month – Building Trade Tools, Power Tool Innovations and Wet/Dry Vacuuming. Peter Brett provides his usual wealth of information on products from Fein, Husqvarna, Toolstream and Leatherman. He has also written a Company Profile on GYS following on from our visit to the factory in Laval in France last month. Christine has been out and about again on her first visit to a Toolbank show this year - this one in Chepstow. See reports

and photos on page 24. If you visitwww.toolbusiness.co.uk you can click on the Facebook button and see photos from visits made by our team to Trade Shows and Companies. I hope you ’Like’ us!
