the 2012/2013 outdoor trends Casual outdoor lounges and filigree armchairs - Gardens as summer living
rooms - Trend colour blue - Barbecuing with lots of convenience -Garden fair spoga+gafa showing innovative design and product ideas The outdoor living feel-good factor: particularly in the troubled times of the
Euro and bank crisis, consumers are longing for a place to get away from it all, a homely, cosy oasis right on their front doorstep. What could be better suited for this than their own green surroundings - regardless of whether it is in the garden or on the balcony. In Germany alone, last year around 30 per cent of the over 14- teens devoted themselves to the garden theme in their leisure time. And there is no end in sight to this boom. The potential of the garden market is far from exhausted, say the convinced experts from IFH Retail Consultants. For 2012 they are predicting growth of 0.7 per cent to 18.04 billion Euro, because in the outdoor furniture sector alone, 8.6 million households are currently planning new purchases. The focal point is casual-cool lounges, dainty sofas and armchairs along with products in the total Indoor Look. What exactly will be in demand in the outdoor sector over the coming years is being shown by around 2,000 suppliers from the trade world at the garden fair spoga+gafa from 2nd to 4th September 2012 in Cologne.

Super Rod Awarded
Queens Award Super Rod, the Blaenavon based manufacturer of installation tools for electricians, has just been awarded their second Queens Award in four years. Following their award for
Innovation in 2008, Super Rod has now been awarded one for International Trade in recognition for their success in exporting the Super Rod range all over the world. Commenting on the award,
Managing Director, Malcolm Duncan said “We have always known we have a great product, but to see the response we get when we show our range in a country for the first time is amazing.” The last couple of years have been a challenge for the company, faced with
imitation products from the Far East, along with a forced factory move last year. Super Rod have further invested in a new design and production facility in Blaenavon, not far from its original site, to retain their excellent group of employees. The future looks promising for Super Rod, and Malcolm commented “We hope
our success and awards inspires other designers and inventors and shows that manufacturing is not dead in Wales and with great people around you anything can be achieved.”
