of today’s premium power tool brands

Commitment to Quality is constant Metabo work hard to ensure their reputation as a premium brand is

maintained. Pre-production testing is gruelling and no stone is left unturned in the pursuit of delivering a product worthy of the Metabo brand. Over 150 people work in Quality and R&D and once in production, every

machine produced undergoes a run test before it is packed and shipped. Little wonder Metabo can boast such low warranty rates in such a demanding market.

Power tools for professionals "When it comes to the development of our range, we take our orientation

from the needs and requirements of professional users only" emphasises Martin Aplin, the 52 year old MD of Metabo UK who entered the hand and power tool sector over 20 years ago. As a result, he knows both the market and its quirks well. The requirements of the professional user are also very familiar to him since prior to his early years spent in the design, sales and marketing of military test equipment and power transmission solutions he completed an apprenticeship as a precision toolmaker. Metabo UK today, based in Southampton, is focused on its key strengths in

the industrial sector and professional trades and whilst small enough to be flexible and personal, it draws on the considerable resource its parent company can offer to service the ever changing dynamic that is the UK power tool market.

Each component manufactured by Metabo in their Nurtingen facility is constantly quality checked. Metabo claim ‘in every Metabo there beats a heart’ and that care and devotion to quality is evident in the finished product

Metabo’s Southampton base provides excellent logistics, comprehensive training facilities, first class service for warranties and repairs and sales support for its UK and Irish customers.

Local distribution without saturation Metabo UK places great store in supporting local stockists with a proactive approach.

Saturation via distribution is not in its UK remit and as its strategic ambitions in industry and specific trades evolves, the associations with specialist and loyal representatives of its brand become ever more important. “Our distribution base has changed significantly over recent years and loyal distributors who

have long valued the importance of investing in a premium brand portfolio are now being rewarded with great product development and increasing demand” states MD Martin Aplin. This claim is perhaps best illustrated by the fact that Metabo will this year achieve over 45 percent of their turnover with products that have been on the market for

less than two years. “Our UK range whilst still retaining a strong foothold in woodworking from its former Elektra Beckum days is now very much orientated towards metal competence and portable solutions, and the recent acceleration in innovation rates is fuelling our growth” he adds.

A medium-sized company with a worldwide reputation As Metabo approach their 9th decade after the founding of the company, a lot has changed in those 88 years, but surprisingly a lot has remained the same.

Metabowerke is still owned by the families that founded the company, the export rate in 2012 is around 80 percent, and the desire to lend a helping hand to professionals in industry and trade by providing them with first-class tools to meet their needs is a desire that is fulfilled every day. The 150 employees in the 1930s have become 1,700 today and over 1,100 of them are passionately manning Metabo’s impressive manufacturing plant in Nürtingen near Stuttgart in the heart of the Swabian region where neighbouring brands are such companies as Porsche, Mercedes and one or two other well known and desirable German brands. This sometimes underestimated brand called Metabo can claim to be one of the few real power tool manufacturing plants in Europe loyal to its roots, manufacturing product from raw material to the finished article, and clearly illustrating why this ‘Made in Germany’ mid sized company has the quality to back up a comprehensive 3 year warranty package for their valued users. A dense network consisting of 26 global sales subsidiaries and more than 100 importers secures the company a presence throughout the world. ‘A medium-sized

Swabian company with a global reputation’. Great things are happening at Metabo. Take an even closer look onwww.metabo.co.uk
